A large poster, nailed to the Last Stand's message board. A copy is found inside the Pissing Crone, and the Town Hall also. The message is written first in Espruar, the script of the Elves, but a copy in Common follows.
Brothers and Sisters of Sanctuary,
The one who writes to you is Laheryn Ulmy'ayn, daughter of Galandir, daughter of Ulvaryn born of Evereska in the north. I write to tell a story, and make a plea.
A few darks back, as I entered reverie, I drowned in the visions of an ancestor. A great Coronal descended into the bowels of the earth, where we now dwell, and this ancestor, whose eyes were mine, followed as part of his warband. They sought revenge and retribution against our Dark Brethren. They entered the earth, fought bravely, with honor, but eventually this wretched Dark vanquished them. My vision faded when the Coronal told he-who-was-I to flee, and take the great elven blade, so that it would never be touched by the hands of our Dark Brethren. The blade is now lost, but it is near. Its magic remains, strong as ever. But it will not call to us, here in Sanctuary. Why? Because we are undeserving.
Where are our traditions? Where is our unity, our strength? Everywhere I look, I see a brother, a sister, but no unity or commitment to one another and to a common cause. Let this be our rallying banner. I have sworn Thor Everae, the Oath of the People. I have sworn that I shall do whatever I can to bring us together, to revive our traditions and to return those who may have strayed from their rightful path back to the worship of the Seldarine. These things I have sworn, I beg that you swear them also:
Thor Everae I, _______, solemnly swear, Corellon as my witness, that I shall devote myself to the unity of the People in Sanctuary. That I shall lay down my life in protection of my brothers and sisters. That I shall defend Sanctuary as a place of freedom, a remote isle in a sea of strife and despair, where we of the People may yet live as Corellon would have us. I swear that I shall do these things, and wait, for the Blade shall call one who is worthy and he or she shall lead us.
I hardly believe that I, brothers and sisters, should be the one to lift this blade. In fact, I very much expect that another of us shall be called by it when the time comes. I do know however, that at present, we have nothing. Without unity, without community, we cannot expect to be worthy of this great gift. Therefore, by Thor Everae I propose that we form an Elven Court, here in Sanctuary. A court with no king. We await the appointment of our rightful ruler - the blade shall reveal itself and point the way, but only when we are ready. Until then, this is our duty:
- We must convince as many brothers and sisters to bind themselves to Thor Everae as we can. The more our number grows, the readier we become.
- The court shall be organized as follows: The Coronal above all. Until he or she is revealed to us, however, his Ministers shall be: a warrior, in the tradition of the blade, to form a warband to defend our People, to search for the Blade when the time arrives and to protect our Sanctuary. A priest, to speak of the Gods to those who may have been led astray; To preach their word and guide us as we pay respects to the Seldarine; to oversee the construction and consecration of a Shrine in their name. A mage, to carry the tradition of the Art, to teach it and improve it; to liaise with other groups of the city and to serve as our voice while our Coronal is unrevealed.
- In summation, what we must do: Bolster our numbers, form a Court to serve our Coronal when the blade reveals them. Form a warband, build a shrine and position ourselves politically in Sanctuary. When these things have been accomplished, I am sure that the blade shall call to one of us, and our Coronal shall be revealed.
As you see, my brothers, my sisters, there is much to do. Far be it from me to take any decisions without listening to you all. I seek your council and your companionship. Write to me at the Last Stand, meet me on the street and swear your oath in the name of the blood that flows through your veins. Our decisions shall be taken in moot, by vote. First we decide who shall be our leaders, the warrior, the priest and the mage. Then, we begin.
Once enough brothers and sisters have sworn their oath, we shall hold a moot in which all the oath-takers will have a vote and a right to be considered to each of these positions.
In hope of better days, with union and strength,
Laheryn Ulmy'ayn, Vel'Onal (speaker for the Blade)
