A letter to the Council (PC/DM)

Councilors,

I am a man of the dead and it is through the works of our Lord, Kelemvor, that we are able to stand against the constant threat of the Undead that linger below our feet and above our heads.

The Mausoleum is a place of death, and unfortunately, undeath. It should not be, and I know not why the current keeper has not set out to destroy this curse. I have been asked by Anders Lerim to take over his charge of caring and keeping the Mausoleum as he grows old with death and is to pass soon to our lord for what we can hope is fair judgement.

It is also my understanding that there is another keeper, which confuses me, as I've been charged by a man of Kelemvor, who is clearly the keeper, to resume his duties. If Mister Lerim is the keeper, then who is this other man of Tyr who claims domain over the Mausoleum?

Regardless, it is the council who may choose such duties as these to be given to the citizens of Sanctuary.

I am asking for the Council's permission to take the reigns of the Mausoleum and watch over it as it should, as it's long been neglected. If the dead can not rest, then how can the living even possibly be able to? If the council deems me worthy to perform this service, then I will do my best under the eyes of the Gods to remove this curse as long as it is in my power to do so.

Live well and be judged fairly,

Theon Arnen, Speaker for the Dead, servant to the Lord of the Dead.

[Resent]

Hammer 22nd Year 153 Mr. Theon Arnen, Dornal Avhost is the Caretaker of the Mausoleum. Who this Anders Lerim is, I have no idea. Senior Clerk Riddle

Councilors,

I have erred in my account that Ander's Lerim was a Caretaker. He was infact a simple man of Kelemvor who was the last of the Eternal Order, a line of Knights and Priests dedicated to ward off Undeath.

It was his wish that I take control of the Mausoleum.

I understand this wish has little rights in legality, so there is no point in arguing his claim.

However, consider the fact Dornal Avhost has done absolutely nothing for Sanctuary or the Mausoleum since he has taken over it. Undead still plague it and the souls are still restless. He allows faithful of Myrkulite, necromancers and cultists to a false god, to work in the Mausoleum. He is not even a man that serves Kelemvor or Jergal.

Signed,

Arnen

Mister Arnen,

On behalf of the Council I apologize for this slow response, and we will return with an answer as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you begin volunteering at the mausoleum and/or sending us any information regarding your accomplishments in dealing with the city's deceased.

Lastly, I'd like to point out that the Caretaker's position is not an undead-hunting director. We need someone whose first priority will be record keeping, body preparation, and the other duties required of those who prepare the dead for burial. While combatting the undead is all good and well, do realize that other duties must take precedence.

Councilor Dentra

Councilor Dentra,

Thank you for your response.

I have taken an active hand in employing adventurers to investigate the Mausoleum and return any information to me. I honestly believe the dead are restless because they are buried so far below the surface. While we may fumicate the newly deceased, the ones are still buried continue to be restless and I believe if we were to fumicate those as well it may handle the problem.

Failing that, it would lead to other possible reasons that should be looked into further.

I understand the role of Caretaker involves records, Kelemvor's clergy is no stranger to this. I do believe Caretaker involves the protection of the deceased in your own crypts, however. That while preparation of the dead may be pleasant for a funeral that it does nothing if the same deceased are walking dead or angered spirits the nect day.

I eagerly await the Council's consideration and will continue to work on investigating these undead.

Speaker Arnen

Councilors,

Caretaker Avhost has agreed to relinquish his duties to me, he should be sending you a missive soon to note such.

Respectfully,

Theon Arnen
