load times and transitions in PvP

Some people, like me, still are running overheating 386s on dialup. What this means for Pvp is that we have no chance to catch up to anybody who uses a transition, and we have no chance to run away because in the five minutes it takes us to load, they will already be there having had the time to read their favorite novel or watch a movie while waiting.

I'd like to request that if you transition while chasing somebody, that you attempt to give them about the same distance they had on you before going through the transition. Easily forgotten during the heat of the moment, but its worth a try.

The slowpokes thank you.

Agreed, This happens all the time for me, and is a nuisance for traveling with a group, but in PVP it just makes me not even bother to chase them.

Unfortunately this will never be a policy. This is impossible to enforce.

Maybe impossible to enforce but we can be nice, and think about it next time.

In reverse, someone running ages away after you and hitting you immediately when you appear into a transition (still loading screen fading) is pretty lame.

It does not have to be enforced, allow me to explain senoritas.

I take you back to a time of Calvin Brown the cop he chase me ok but he knew years ago I was on dialup so right I load slow he fast. Whenever we entered a new transition he woul always appear first, but this is where the enforced bit does not have to come in, instead let us call it player courtesy. Calvin Brown even though he could of attacked me right away allowed me a few seconds before he gave chase. Player courtesy, plus it tests you more and gets the heart pumping more.

Bonjour

No. How are you to know if someone's connection is sub-par? We can't even call it courtesy to do this, as it implies that those that don't aren't.

i thought about what you just said and looked at that red hat arrr

You can tell if someones connection is slower then yours while giving chase quite easily. If you're entering the transition 30 feet behind them, and appear a few seconds before they do. As to being chased, much harder I would surmise.

Whatever, it works both ways-

I've had situations where I chase someone with a slower connection. I load first and keep running-I never find them because somehow I zoned in 10 seconds before they did and never realize they're now behind me.

Other times, I zone much slower and lose the person. I don't expect them to wait for me to zone through before they start running again.

Its why I hate seeing people zone to escape pvp. One way or another, it gets wonky based on your hardware. Sometimes, you can't avoid it-its try to zone or get killed.

All the same, there is also nothing in NWN that accounts for the incredible silliness that EVERYONE runs at the same speed and can do so indefinitely. Its just another of those randomly odd things we learn to live with in the game.

I like to load fast and gank Oro on the other side.

Oroborous Its why I hate seeing people zone to escape pvp. One way or another, it gets wonky based on your hardware. Sometimes, you can't avoid it-its try to zone or get killed.

Just for the heck of it, I'll also say I don't like people transitioning during pvp. Sometimes though, I'll admit that sometimes it seems more appropriate when it is done by the victim who did not willing invoke the conflict in the process of retreating and running away.

I won't say it's mandatory, however, waiting at a transition while your opposition loads in slower than you and letting him catch up is something you can do if you choose to do so. (And is a nice gesture indeed!)

I load extremely slowly. It becomes painfully obvious in pvp. I remember one particular time when I zoned from the the in-between to Lower, and the first thing I see is the inside of a jail cell. Pretty harsh, and was worked out afterwards. But still.

IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!

Do we have a particular stance against Battle lines forming on transitions? I've found it makes it very difficult to "notice" what you're walking into. Say three people walk from Upper to lower, into a crowd at the bettom of the steps. If that crowd was hostile, should it be considered bad form to attack as soon as they load the transition?

Considering that the transition times will have them all appearing at different times at the bottom of the steps, and you are effectively blind while transitioning (you cant see what you're walking into). What is the best way for these situations to be handled?

Hypothetically, would people get pissed off if a player stepped through a transtion into a situation, and Immediately tries to re-transition back up? I'm just wondering how correct that should be considering that they were not afforded the opportunity to "look" though the transition prior to stepping into it. These cases do leave the differing transition times painful as well- since you cannot see someone run past you the other way while you are loading black.

I know the Upper to Lower transition has its own rules to this, being that you should not transition hop in PvP through it, however, That was just an example. You cant see out a window or a door into the street before you step out of any building either. These questions had me curious, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts to share on the matter.
