High Death Penalty

Why is the XP penalty so high? It gets annoying when a few stupid hogs come up and gank you and you loose a day or even a weeks worth of XP. It doesn't make sense to me.

Also, I see no IC reason why death would entail losing abilities and skills, which is what really confuses me.

Please read and comply with these simply rules. I have taken the liberty of renaming your thread appropriately.

I cannot answer your question, but wouldn't want it any other way.

The high death penalty is there for several reasons. For one, it keeps death a serious affair. Yes, it's a game, but we dislike the idea of death being a trivial event. If you die, you will pay a heavy cost for a new life. Otherwise, a PvP death would mean less, the overall server level would be much higher, and the most powerful PCs would consistently survive, yet walk away being among the most powerful of PCs.

Besides preventing death from being trivial, it keeps our setting a challenge. It's far more interesting to take a big risk on an adventure (in this case, your life) rather than charge in and assume the converse, an easy resurrection at any point.

It's too low. >_>

Ah, all right. I was just curious, that's all.

It is an essential component in maintaining a server that you don't get bored with.
