I can guarantee
That everyone
Is going to have some trouble
reading some portion of this post!
Not nice, is it? For the sake of everyone's eyesight, please don't take up this dreaded fad of writing your posts in dark red or any substitute that makes me want to gouge my own eyes out! Be a good neighbor. If you want to look like you're writing in blood, please emote it instead or something.

I'm sorry, Johannes. Frank signed anything important in bold, italicized, red letters. I meant no harm! :P

This is not an official DM stance, by the way.
I personally don't mind it!

Just get low saturation, light colors that show up on about the same level as the text. Make sure the gray value doesn't start vibrating and competing with the text. This is a resource that could help you locate suitable colors. Assuming you want to mess with colors that people -are- able to read, and assuming you dont really mind making Johannes eye's bleed.
<_<
#D82820 Is a color that is very easy to read on the grey background. This is a much better color then, when people write with darkred. Because this way requires that people either squint really hard, or highlight the text prior to reading it. This is primarily because the value of the background is similar to the value of the dark red text. The slight vibration is caused by the difference in intensity.
IMO, #4682B4, Steel Blue, is a nice an easy color to read on this background as well.

It doesn't matter to me. I'm one of those people who compulsively highlights text as they read it anyway, so all color gets washed out by the highlighter anyway.

Yellow and white text bother me. They are hard to read and serve no real purpose.
GRUNT.

If I can't read something I just highlight it.

It is still a bit of a pain. I will happily point out all of Magister's recent posts which are dark red on dark grey for me. I always have to highlight them.
Although, ironically I could read all of Johannes' post.

I was having problems reading the dark red myself, so I changed to the regular red.

Also, keep in mind that we have four different themes available on the forums. So if something does look good on the default dark grey, it does not mean that it looks good for everyone.

Although I don't use it very often, I must respectfully disagree.
Colors add just a little bit of flavor that I like. I think it is noteworthy that sometimes it IS harder to read. But they can be done appropriately.
Such as using things like...
... boldface, to make it easier to read.
And the there are certain...
colors that always work well.
And others that are a PITA. So don't use indigo, or dark blue please.
Colors can help back up what's happening. Are you a priest of an ooze deity? Writing in slime is a pretty neat little trick. Or maybe you just cut Azzam's throat and want to send a sanguine message to the city of those vermin slaves by using his ring finger as a quill, his blood as your ink!
So, in conclusion, the creative use of colors can be about as awesome as a forum post can be without going as far as THIS.

Also, not everyone uses the same forum style, so what works for some people won't work for all. There's no pleasing all the people all the time.
I like my dark red. =(

There are no different forum styles.
Well, there are, but if you don't use AdInfinitum... well... then I don't like you. First of all, white on black is the most comfortable thing to read (staring at black text on white is like staring at a light-bulb). Secondly, EfU is deliciously dark and atmospheric, just like that only true forum-style.
You can surely use a different one- but the essence of EFU does not flow in other styles.
Anyway, yeah, colors are bad.

Actually, white and black isn't the most comfortable thing to read. A black on a light red is. They've studied this!
All the same, highlighting can be done. It's a PITA though.
So just know, unless I really am curious about your post--I for one will ignore all funky colors.

I use the plain phpbb theme as it's more inconspicuous for when I'm at work. Colours don't show too well on it!
