HOUSE MONTEZZI, a noble family of esteem and honor stretching back to the earliest days of the human nation of Cormyr, has come to Sanctuary. RINALDO MONTEZZI and his younger brother Jacques do hereby proclaim that it is their will to establish an alternative to the Republic of Upper Sanctuary and the anarchy of the Sanctuary Below. This fiefdom, its boundaries yet to be established, shall adhere to the glorious traditions of strong human nations that have endured for thousands of years in the lands above.   The advantages of feudalism and monarchy over other experimental systems of governance need not be explained here, as they ought be self-evident to any thinking man. In times of hardship, men turn to strong leaders of noble background to make the necessary decisions for the health of the state. The gods grant strength of character and the obligation of rulership to those born with noble blood, it is the duty of those born without this blood to serve ably and find honor through the actions and prestige of their Lord.   Here now is an opportunity for soldiers and men of arms to find the service they seek. Turn away from the aimless and meandering life of a man with no ruler, and seek you proud service on behalf of a liege lord.

Let it be known to all that the brute Koinus Sten, former Watchman of Sanctuary, has this day met his end. Sten the Dwarf, tyrant catspaw of the Upper Council, acting upon the demands of an illithid master, murdered one Haran Dell, a newly initiated member of the Montezzi Guard.

The Council of Sanctuary did little to punish him for this crime, sending him - as is often done - only to the streets below, there to terrorize whoever he pleased.

HOUSE MONTEZZI exacted its own justice. The dwarf Koinus Sten was stripped and flogged, healed, and then allowed ten minutes to survive in the sewers while being hunted by a mortal enemy. The spectacle made for good sport, and to his credit the dwarf Sten turned upon his hunter in the final minutes, and bludgeoned him with his giant fists, nearly felling him. Yet, in the end, the dwarf met his end, and was duly executed by the Hunter for his crime.
