Remove Multiclassing penalties and favored class XP penalty

This is ridiculous. When I wish to multiclass into a wizard/fighter/barbarian, I should be able to without any penalty. And what's to stop that monk/sorceror half orc from doing what she wants? The XP penalties are there to stereotype the builds for each class, I respectively suggest that these are removed.

These also affect our beloved DM, and EXPloration XP as well.

Someone else can do the long winded rant to support, or deny this

I believe they are in place so a player cannot simply pick and choose various classes for their best abilities, while not suffering some type of repercussion. Considering the main intent of EfU is RP, and not powergaming, that would be my guess as to why they are in effect.

Let alone, isn't that standard D&D rules? :)

I for one, think they should stay.

This is, AFAIK, engine-level stuff BioWare put in because it's 3rd Edition D&D rules. You're not going to convince BioWare to remove it, because BioWare isn't going to convince WotC to approve this rules deviation.

Nothing we can do - not that I think we'd do it if we could.

Nor is BioWare going to touch anything as fundamental as this at the game's current point. Additionally, if you don't devote yourself entirely to one profession, you will not be able to master said profession. That's what the penalty represents.

As far as I know, this Can be changed. And as far as I know, it's part of the standard xp scripts.

EFU uses a custom XP system (to my knowledge) Which means the procudures for getting the multiclass etc. is most likely in one of the #include~

I've played on several servers, such as my most previous one, Demonrealms, whre there was no such penalties.

That said, it's not really desireable. yes it means you can go crazy with your builds, But really. It could potentially be pretty unbalancing not to limit powerbuilds. If you're such a powerbuild, you dont really need more XP, you just own period, and beh appy with it.

And besides. Less XP is more quests of the same level. Which is more gold for you. Which means better loot from you at lower levels from your friendly gnomish merchant. Don't complain, enjoy the wealth!

Actually, I believe as long as they stay within one level apart it shouldn’t matter per the core rules of D&D, no matter how many classes a character has.

Quote = WotC, D&D players handbook If any two of your multiclass character’s classes are two or more levels apart, the strain of developing and maintaining different skills at different levels takes its toll. Your multiclass character takes a 20% penalty to XP for each class that is not within one level of his or her highest-level class. These penalties apply from the moment the character adds a class or raises a class’s level too high. For instance, a 4th-level wizard/3rd-level rogue gets no penalty, but if that character raises his wizard class level to 5th, then he takes the 20% penalty from that point on until his levels were nearly even again.
Of course the ‘favored’ class of any race does not count for this penalty. So basically, when considering this XP penalty, don’t count the favored class to this ratio.

At least this is how it works in D&D. I'm not sure how NwN is scripted...

NWNWiki, your one-stop shop for all your NWN mechanics needs.

XP can be granted outside of scripts, and it is this XP, at the engine level, which is affected by multiclass penalties. I suppose it might be possible with 2DA (not script) changes to give all races "Favored Class: Any."

But a student of all is a master of none, or however the saying goes.

Thane Let alone, isn't that standard D&D rules? :)

So was the use of sence motive or swim skills. Didn't stop them from taking them out for NWN. As much as I would love to not take XP penalties for multiclassing the hell out of my character, I think that it is fine the way it is. You get more dirrect bonuses to multi-classing any way. Like sneaky up behind a mage and casting dispel magic on him...long enough for the barbarian to rush up and kill 'em!

Well i see no need to change. If i am a mechanic, it would take less time to learn more about mechanics (probably) but if am a mechanic but now decide to learn something about medicine, that will take a lot more of time than if i was a medic...

I think it works + or - that way.

Huskie put it perfectly
