Greetings esteemed members of the Sanctuary City Council,
I was instructed to write another letter outlining my requests. This letter is in regards to my request for a Missing Peron’s Office to be established by the council.
This proposed office will require 3 things to operate. 1. A cabinet to store files in the city hall or library. 2. A message board in the city hall. 3. The council’s consent.
It will require no council resources, be run by volunteers and aid the council however wished.
The proposed Missing Peron’s Office would have 4 purposes.
1. Allow citizens to place reports of fellow missing citizens. 2. Allow citizens to help contact new arrivals they know. 3. Allow new arrivals, to help contact citizens they know. 4. Allow citizens to leave notices for relatives, friends, family etc., on the surface
1. Allow citizens to place reports of fellow missing citizens. It is no secret esteemed sirs, that we live in an incredibly dangerous place. Volunteers are currently doing this, but the consent and encouragement of the council, as well as a place to store our files and a message board, would help. Citizens could file notices that they suspect someone missing. Volunteers would put out inquiries and try to contact the person reported missing or try to find those who may know where they are. It is also no secret that many bodies are never identified, one way to help lessen this problem is by reducing the missing person’s problem.
2. Allow citizens to help contact new arrivals they know. 3. Allow new arrivals, to help contact citizens they know. Suppose Steve and Sarah are brother and sister, both enslaved by the Drow. Suppose Steve escapes and makes his way to the city. Steve hopes Sarah will escape too, one day. Steve leaves a letter at the office addressed to Sarah. Sarah escapes two years later. As a new arrival, Sarah is encourages to check the office. Sarah checks the office and within minutes of entering the city, learns that Steve is in the city and precisely where to find him. This will help new arrivals find their relations, if they have any in the city. Esteemed councilors, many bonds are formed by those who are forced into slavery, even stronger then those of blood relations, people frequently arive in the city and later, their relations may arrive as well, this would help see new arrivals are housed more quickly and more rapidly integrated into the city.
4. Allow citizens to leave notices for relatives, friends, family etc., on the surface. It is conceivable that one day regular contact will be established with the surface. Citizens could leave letters at this office, for instructions of people or placed they wish contacted on the surface. It has been 150 years which is more than a lifetime to men, but this is not a lifetime, to some other citizens. Dwarves live many centuries, as do elves, gnomes are also longed lived. Even humans will have families, descendants that they will wish learn the truth of what happened to them. This office could also collect letters addressed to individuals on the surface and store them, for the event that one day regular contact with the surface is established. Many people despair that their loved ones will never know what happened to them, this alone would give a great many people, peace. I am aware that some of the council do not favor efforts to reach the surface and may not like this proposal because they fear it will make people focus on the surface. I would politely point out that this will help people come to grips with the fact they will not likely see the surface, by knowing they will not be forgotten about. I love my Brothers and Sisters of my Temple, I accept the fact I will never see them again, but even I would take solace from the thought that SOME day, even after my death, my Temple would learn what happened to me. I know many others would also take solace from this. However, if you do not like this proposed fourth function, it would not be included in the office.
Esteemed councilors, I ask for nothing but a cabinet in the town hall or library, a bulletin board and your consent. We need no gold, I will personally bare what little costs we incur, which should only be the cost of quills, ink and paper. I volunteer my labor and I know I will have little trouble finding others who wish to help.
