This is a lore question but it needs some background. It is in refference to some facts which are not often relevant and no one usually cares about.
It has only been 13 years since Myrkul lost control of the land of the dead. When myrkul lost the dead, most of the church went peacefully to serve Cyric(who they called Cyruk). In Faiths and Avatars it even quotes one powerful Myrkul priest as saying "It was merely an issue of changing the stationary and putting a purple sun around the skull on the temple door".
It further says that when Kelemvor became the death god, myrkuls clergy once again, mostly wholesale, went to Kelemvor. It further explains that the hierarchy of the church stayed mostly the same under all 3 gods, easing the transition. Kelemvor however gave new orders, which were obeyed by Myrkuls priests, such as getting rid of all the undead they made.
It has only been 13 years since Myrkul died, less since Kelemvor became a god, only 11 years or so. Myrkul was the god of death for at least 2,000 years(netherils fall), possibly longer. So I have a question and a statement I hope is true, or at least I would like the DMs to consider.
1. My question. Clerics do not appear over night, it takes time to train them. Does this mean that a majority of Kelemvors church are former cleric of Myrkul, especially most of the higher ranked ones?
2. A statement I hope is true. Any NPC cleric of Kelemvor in the city today over the age of 30 was probably once a cleric of Myrkul and then Cyric, before they became a cleric of Kelemvor. If hey met a cleric of Myrkul who had their spells, they would be surprised to say the least. If they were formally a cleric of Myrkul, they may be sympathetic and even, be converted back... which is something my PC plans to attempt.
