(This speech was given at the gate between Lower and Upper to a varied crowd of listeners and people passing from one side to the other)
Friends and patriots,
I have an important question to ask of you. (Walking from one side of the gate to the other) Am I not the same man here...as I am on this side? We must not be blind to recognize ourselves in others. We are not men of upper, or of lower, we are all a part of Sanctuary. We are survivors, we are the few free men and women blessed to have found a home in the underdark. And whether we keep this our home, or we move away from it, we should never forget that we are blessed to have found it.
Sanctuary stands on the achievers of the past. The Bresely's, Matterhiems and other founders are our legacy. Yet, Sanctuary also stands on the achievements of we people now. Each and everyone of us plays a part, each one of us responsible for keeping the machinery of our lives moving forward. How far could we go if we decided to really work together? Then we may not only enjoy our freedoms, but also begin to spread them.
All persons in this city are equal. And all persons deserve an equal chance at happiness. There are steps we can take now to ensure a more equal Sanctuary forever. I ask for your support in this election, to see humanoid rights made into law, to see a more equal economy in our city, to see a stronger Sanctuary at its roots, being we the people here and everywhere. It is time we put aside our differences and took these steps. No great accomplishment has come without sacrifice, the tireless exertions of individuals working toward a better world. We will have to sacrifice for one another, Upper for Lower, and Lower for all of Sanctuary.
This is your city, this is your life and this election is your freedom to choose. The council is yours. The watch is yours. You own them. Now do with it what you will to make it better. I will also do what I can. As your councilor I will work for you, to see your hopes and dreams made realities. I promise never to stop trying, until this world we live in is perfect. Thank you.
