Animal Companion Dialog Option for Stealth

I'd love it if I could tell my animal companion to enter Stealth or Detect Mode. This is a good idea.

It is.

No animal companion has hide or MS ranks (They should!)

So this would be pointless.

Because the rat doesn't have about 12 ms hide..

Several companions have a close to decent hide. On top of that, even a low hide/ms bonus can be enough to escape from the sight of some people and creatures.

Companions such as a cave prowler could and should have a decent stealth. Ever ran into a wild one?

Thomas_Not_very_wise No animal companion has hide or MS ranks (They should!)

So this would be pointless.

Comments like this make me wonder.

Why bash down a good idea by pointing out some stupid issue that gets in the way of it, when said stupid issue seems admittedly to be either a bug or something meriting its own suggestion?

Some of the animal companions actually have clues that they are stealthy in their descriptions, so if they don't have stealth--it must be a mistake/over-sight.

So why waste breath saying "won't work cause lolololol" instead of having a long time ago pointed out there was likely an error, or at the very least, use THIS opportunity to point out said error and comment on the actual original suggestion on its own merit rather than with a blanket "won't work".

'nuff said

Agreed.

Because using /c recall to get through the underdark is indeed very lame.

Nature (rangers and druids) characters rely heavily on stealth and on their animal companions to succeed in their ventures. I fully support this idea, and agree with Oro that if certain animal companions (rats, for instance!) don't have good stealth scores, it's probably an oversight.

Good plan. Do it.

This is a very good idea and if it could be extended to dominated (AE) animals or summons, the better!

Agreed.

This has been a desired feature for a long time. It's somewhere on our list, but as I recall it's complicated to implement.

(using voice commands to send the companion into stealth)

You can use the (annoying) voice chat to tell your companion to stealth.

V - D - S for "Go Stealthy"

I'm not sure if this is what was meant by Howland, or if this even works for EFU.

If not, then I support looking into some way to do this.

I believe Dr. H means the EFU commands. /c, /v, /pp, /etc.

I like this idea.

I'm pretty sure that if Arkov was still around, this would be no problem. *looks over at the resident scripters and smiles*

Pretty sure this was brought up a good while ago, when Arkov was around. Since it hasn't be implemented since, i wouldn't hold my breath. If this post inspires anyone enough to figure out a way to get it done though, then by all means do, its a great idea.

If it cant be done wia voice commands maybe it would be possible to script it that when a charecter stealths his animal copanion does as well. Admitadly i have no idea if this would work since i have no idea about scripting.

I am sure this was a feature in the single player campaigns, but I may just be making it up!

I will definately be for this, as its boring not scouring the Underdark with your companion out and having to dismiss it when you get to a dangerous area.

Mr Snoteye, where art thou?

It was an option in single player which was awesome. Great idea that I hope gets implemented.

Try initiating dialogue with the companion. It looks like this should already be an option (stealth, not detect mode).

Could Hide / Move Silent be boosted for animal companion where it is relevant?

For example, my Cave rat animal companion has a hide of 5 and a Move silent of 5 which is totally accounted by the dexterity modifier.

I think he should get the small size modifier too, and/or other bonuses, otherwise it is pitifully low :-(

Stealth is not an option for the animal Companion in the dialog. :-(
