Skull Helmets

Would it be possible to add these into one or two less macabre areas of the server, like the ones Ghail sold?

I've noticed a recent trend of "helmet = necromancer" that is almost always true due to the availability of them, which leads to a lot of people getting lamed for something that's OOCly sensical but ICly less sound (I doubt there is only one place in the entire Underdark that sells helmets that look like a skull) when all they wanted to do was look cool.

Rather goes for helmets in general and cloaks.

There are a dearth of these available, just for the mundane look of something different.

Since it's most often true that Skull Helmet = Necromancer, why shouldn't it be IC? :P

That's almost as bad as saying black = evil. Sort it out, son.

Wearing a skull helm, while obviously signifying evil and necromancy etc., it on EfU a sure-sign to any pragmatistic player that the person has visited a place, where they have almost certainly bought other things of that variety, which are illegal. My main problem is the logic leap from "You have a skull helmet, that must've been bought from there, that means you're a Necromancer" which, while being true, makes little sense.

My main problem here is Watchmen doing thorough searches on individuals in Skull Helmets, having no doubt that the person is a Necromancer through partly OOC reasoning.

I don't see the 'partly OOC reasoning'. If you're wearing another HUMAN BEING'S SKULL as your helmet, you must warrant at least a search. Furthermore, it's in the knowledge of any PC with a low/decent Lore that bones, skulls and mortal remains are often the choice materials for necromancers and people of that nature to make their gear out of.

If you don't want to be harassed by law enforcement, don't put up flags of your allegiance to something that is considered a capital crime, while you're on their turf.

Also, I'll dispute your notion that every player makes the immediate connection Skull Helm ---> Purchased in XYZ ---> Necromantic items. I think the connection is much simpler: Skull Helm ---> Necromancer. Furthermore, I'll point out that helmets with the same design are available in an often-done quest, and though the ones you get from that particular place are a certain color, they can be dyed, as can the ones from the place you referred to in your posts.

There's also another possibility...

They have been wearing those like all the time at one point, and not once has anyone taken them for necromancers. Nutters, that's what they were.

Besides nothing says hardcore than wearing another mans skull, (Although im not really sure they are literaly another man's skull or just a face mask made to look like one.)

I assume that it is an OOC reason to wear a skull over your head and not many IG IC folk would do so willingly unless they were Necromancers, Nutters, believing they were already dead, or daft.

Best if you are going to do something just to look cool you might as well accept that you are suspicious looking and take the searches and false accusations and just deal with it.

Face it in RL, nondescript folk garner less attention.

Actually, Ex-Corporal McSkull was a Necromancer.

Wearing a mask that looks like a skull SHOULD garner extra attention from authorities, imo.

Yes, they should be suspicious, but as of now it's "You have a skull helmet, that means you have to've been to Thomas', which means you've almost certainly got Necromantic loot". It's basically an OOC confidence boost for anyone that they're -not- just trying to look dark or scary, and are definately a Necromancer, which shouldn't really be in my opinion.

Making that OOC assumption can be a mistake anyway. I've often seen skull helms in the trash cart for example.

People can find them in lots of places, though I can see the point of being able to purchase them somewhere else. While no one wants to metagame, it's easy to slip sometimes.

I wear a half-demon Ogre skull on my face.

Cause I kilt it.

My first character, Merin "Mad-axe" B'tziel wore another man's skull (which he did buy at SPOILER's) all around Upper, and got nothing but respect for it. Dang, he was weak and had a horrible build, but the only word to describe that guy was badass. Just thought I'd throw that in for kicks and giggles.

Change the description of the masks to 'made from an actual, 100% authentic, definitively real-at-a-glance *insert character race here* skull', or officially speak against the OOC, metagaming bullcrap. By now you'd think people would have screaming riots about getting rid of the svirf bones around 'upper' Upper, if they were really this freaked out IG about anything that even resembles a bone. Well, unless you have a 99.5% rate of necromancers IG constantly (depicted) wearing those masks while driving their bloodthirsty hordes through Sanctuary. 8)

Heres the deal. if you walk around upper in black robes and a skull mask expect attention. Us Law enforcement are Prejudice. (or at least Sten is.) Well descriminate on race religion and Fashion. If you want to look like a badass in a skull mask do it somewhere with no authority.

You know the argument here is centered around 'skull mask = necromancer', right? Nobody's objecting to wearing another creature's skull = evil/badass/troublemaker, just the hoop-jumping, OOC 'you've been to *necro-joint* to buy that, therefore YOU NECRO!' craziness. 8)

The thing is are these masks even real skulls?

Turgal's is.

I'm pretty sure the effect of these masks is generally to intimidate. After all, if I saw a guy walking down Manhatten with a skull helm on I'd be a bit freaked out. It's synonymous to flashing gang signs or showing off gang tattoos. People are going to be suspicious, and that's why I think skull helms should remain the way they are. Where's the fun in having helmets that look and "act" equally?

Jiachi You know the argument here is centered around 'skull mask = necromancer', right? Nobody's objecting to wearing another creature's skull = evil/badass/troublemaker, just the hoop-jumping, OOC 'you've been to *necro-joint* to buy that, therefore YOU NECRO!' craziness. 8)

Yes, but the crux is the same. Wear a skull mask, and you look suspicious. Whether or not you are a necromancer, the results are the same.

I think the crux of the argument is that there's only one place to get skull masks, and that there should be more to get rid of the OOC element. However, there are multiple places to get skull helmets.

Ghail used to sell Skull Helmets. My elven necromancer that I havn't played in years (months) has one. He tried to claim it was the skull of his drow wizard captor.

They shortly laughed and walked away. :P
