[Speech by Nicolae Lecuyer]

Nailed outside the Town Hall, and within the Last Stand.

I have been within this city for half of a year. I have watched as we worked our way through Councilor, after Councilor. Three terms, I have seen, and yet they all look the same to me. We are bombarded by platforms, ideas, plans and promises. We are approached by starry eyed idealists, cold hearted tyrants, and incompetent but well meaning fools. We must be careful whom we choose to govern, and we must be certain of who we vote for.

I am an old man, as you can plainly see. I cannot offer you the young vigor of recent Councilors, like Sunellar, Merrickson and Deepingdale. I am not a good looking, plated, sword wielding idealist, come to preach of the evils to be slain among us. I come to you as a reasonable, level headed, mature man. I have lived forty three years upon this earth, and in that time I have learned to control my heroic urges that these young men proved entirely incapable of containing.

I am a realist, but that does not stop me from envisioning a future, in which we are all prosperous, and joyful. We do not need to march off to war, to fight intangibles such as “oppression” and “evil”, or even to fight tangibles such as aberrations or drow. We need to focus on our people, and on our welfare. We need to understand that simply because we see many people come and go, does not make our state transitory.

At this time in our history, we do not need the hopeful idealism that has pervaded our elections, in the last months. We need more men like Wyric Crowshire, Grigor Starag, or Demetrius Bhast. We need men who are solid, dependable, and can be known to remain here for longer than a few weeks. I tell you, citizens, I am such a man. I am Forty Three years old, and I have no intention of beginning any crusades. I have been a father, and a grandfather, and I have learned vastly on the subjects of temperance, patience and foresight. It is my solemn promise to you, to be the voice of the common man, the business man, and above all, the Citizen of Sanctuary, and NOT the voice of the zealot, of the crusader, of the transient drifter come to our town, promising to save us all from the wickedness around us.

Our problems are solveable, and they are man made. They are not the dictates of a cruel god, cursing us. They are not the result of a lapse into evil on our part. They are only the result of poor judgement, and understandable mistakes, all of which are entirely fixable, if we put into office men who are in it for the long run. Put me into office, citizens, and I will be a reasonable voice, interested only in turning out humble city into a prosperous and secure home for all.

Thank you.

Nicolae makes certain copies of these are still visable.

Once more.
