The letter is written in a childlike yet neat writing, as if whoever composed the letter had a crude hand but took his time.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to say that I am interested in joining the Watch. I was a soldier on the surface. Then I was captured and broke rocks for the duergar. Now I am in Sanctuary and want to defend this town. When I was on the surface I was in charge of breaking in new recruits. I will be loyal always. I will follow the law.
