Eberron game

Well, The game I was running for the past year just ended due to the entire planet blowing up. (Long story, and strange P&P group. Moving on)

I was thinking of having the next game be based in Eberron, as It was recommended to me. Its, of course, going to be 3.5 (We don't really plan to update to 4.0 either) and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what books I should grab?

I know my Base material would work for most groups, but with this one, I kinda will need as much strange, off hand info as I can get.

Also, anyone know if cloister is a real epic spell? Im too lazy to look but from OOTS it sounds interesting.

Eberron is an awesome campaign setting, I'm running an Eberron campaign myself. I think the basic Campaign Setting contains enough crazy stuff to keep just about any group happy, but since your group sounds particularly bizarre, you might want to look into Races of Eberron for as much material on Changelings as you can find. The changeling race lets PCs get into a lot of really messed up situations, and allows for a lot of off-the-wall tricks from the players and the DM alike.

You may also want to look into all the crazy creatures the Demon Wastes produced.

If anyone in your group decides to play a halfling dinosaur rider (which every Eberron campaign needs, imo), you should probably find a grade school picture book of dinosaurs or something and pick out really weird ones they might be able to find and tame later on. (Depending on how much effort you want to put into that.)

Get somebody to play a dragonmarked character so their House can mess with them, maybe get a dragon of the Chamber interested in the party if a bunch of them have dragonmarks and they work closely together (especially if they are all from different houses, or if they all have aberrant dragonmarks).

I think just reading through the official campaign book should give you plenty of ideas.

Torment, man.

You want to play Torment.

The base Eberron Campaign Setting book is a good buy. It has a lot of plot hooks to explore as a player and a DM, and creates what I feel is the perfect balance of fleshing out enough of a world and power groups, but then backing off, to give players and DMs alike a strong sense of a vibrant world without the DM killing himself making up minutea.

I wish I could really help you with your request, but the other two Eberron books I've read (Magic of Eberron, The Forge of War) really weren't that interesting to me. Others may disagree, but I can't recommend them.

You seem like you really want to have a lot of information about Eberron as supplied by WotC. That is perfectly fine, but one of my own theories about DMing is that the addicition to source books is what prevents fun from happening, and that a DM has to have some level of freedom to have any sense of control over a world. That said, it sounds like you have an interesting group that works well as it is, so you shouldn't feel threatened or pressured by my line of thinking if you guys are happy.

Eff that, Dark Sun is the shit.

Cannibal halflings for the win. Half-Dwarven Mul. It's awesome!

(And free, like Torment.)

Its more that my group is... strange. Having 6 nerdy computer science PhD's feeding off my story, I have to make sure continuity is maintained or else Ill be ripped to shreds and eaten alive. For example, they were a mostly evil, epic level group. I sent a level 2 sorcerer mother and her child at them. they, of course, knocked down the mother and tried to kill the child in front of her, and I had her cast Wish on their asses and send them all to the hells.

That was 2 years ago. I'm still hearing whines about it. Mind you, I don't regret doing it, but I'm still hearing whines.

Anyway, I found a nice wiki that gives me all the info I could ever use, So I'm actually pretty well prepared now.
