combat seems a little one sided, in favor or pointy ear elfs and there silly longbow's, and mages and there silly crossbows, and we halflings suffer a great deal and here is the reason why.
99 arrows= 0 weight
99 crossbow bolts= 0 weight
50 darts= 5 pounds
would it be possible to either
1) reduce the dart weight to 0 like the crossbow bolts/arrows
or
2)increase the weight of crossbow bolts/arrows to approximately 9-10 pounds per 99
we little halflings already get the short end of the stick, so to speak, by having to spend 2x as much for our missle weapon of choice (if you do not believe me, do the math. 99 arrows=1 gold, while 50 darts=1 gold)
please o please can we even out the playing field here a little bit??

Halflings can use crossbows and short bows just fine.
Anyway. If you want a good halfling ranged weapon, there's always the sling. It's utterly lethal in the right hands.

I'm not sure what the complaint is, but longbows only do 1d8 + Str Mod damage. Shortbows do 1d6+str mod dmg. Darts do 1d4+str mod.
Why wouldn't you just use the short bow? it does more damage anyway.
Also the crossbow does the same amount for any race or class - 1d10 or 1d8 (heavy and light respectively).
Besides, halflings get a +1 bonus with slings and darts. If you have a great dex score then your sling is going to be quite effective.

Obviously i am not using darts for mechanical reasons, although it seems that peopel are suggesting that i do just that.
i am coming from a point of "realism" so to speak, which i keep hereing people talk so much about on this server.
it just does not seem right for 1/2 as many darts to cost they same and weight ALOT more than double that many arrows/bolts
but, i can always jump on the mechanics wagon and use a bow, if i was into that sort of OOC metagaming i suppose

You only add the Str if the bows are mighty, which actually reduces the difference between shortbow damage and darts or slings.
I think this has been discussed before, and the main justifications for not changing the weight are that: (1) its not a big problem as it is right now (2) these type of combat darts are expected to be somewhat heavy.
If weight is really an issue, I recommend just using a sling, its more halfling-esque anyway. The arrows could be changed to 2 gold or even 5 for that matter and nobody would really care, I mean if you're that low on gold...

was not aware it was discussed before. and yeah, darts get the str bonus as opposed to bows. i chose dart to take partially becasue i see SOOO many "special" arrows, sling stones, and bolts that finding "special" darts, to me, would be.... well, special.
thanks everyone for your input.
anyway a dm can lock this? got my answer

Here is a lengthy discussion about darts recently that also may help you with what folk are talking about.
