Letters: Breena, Jesse, Prof. X, Imaro, Mebrith

Esteemed Faenor / Jes' / Agent / Mr. Black Knight / Mebrith,

This is Frances Allegretti, writing to inform you (if you didn't already know) of the intentions of Councilor Jonathan Redd to use the Arena for death sport. Due to the questionable legality of the issue which, since he's a Councilor, may tilt in his favour if we don't do our best to tilt it back, I am gathering written support for a petition to abolish and outlaw the use of death matches for entertainment. Councilor Redd fully intends to see good men and women die in front of him, and this is the sort of disdain for the sanctity of life that I cannot stand for.

I am appealing to you and others to help me by raising awareness of this issue, writing to the Sanctuary Council, and signing the petition I've put up outside the Arena. Please let it be known in your circle of associates what Councilor Redd intends to do, and that we as honest citizens, already struggling to survive in the 'dark, will not stand by and sanction this Cyric-like murderlust.

Please do whatever you can to help.

By the grace of the Unicorn Queen, may you find your life to be long and joyful, ~Frances of Lurue

[Jesse only]

P.S.

You should really consider a position at the School of War. I suspect you have some rather unique skills and knowledge that would benefit just about every adventurer in the city. Write me back if you're interested at all.

While you are free to disagree, I'm afraid I can not agree with your choice.

Freedom is what Sanctuary is all about. If a warrior wishes to fight, in a sanctioned fight, to the death, for Glory and Coin, I see that no different than how individuals survive as mercenaries or adventurers, taking coin to fight monsters to the death in the depths of the Dark.

While I find the actions a bit distasteful, I would hope the good councilor could donate proceeds from each fight to the Arena at least, should your campaign to hinder him fail.

Freedom is what we make of it, and citizens are free to do as they wish with this glorious freedom we offer them, so long as it is agreed upon by all involved parties.

Agent Elapidae,

There is a difference between freedom and the abuse of that freedom. Councilor Redd is abusing that freedom. He is purchasing the lives of warriors with his own coin and his own self-imposed grandiose "glory". He is stepping above his station to dictate the terms by which tournaments will be held, which is in the domain of the School of War as you know, in order to see our best and brightest slain for his amusement. Besides which, I'm not really certain how a follower of the Red Knight can support the needless waste of healthy warriors for such a frivolous thing as this.

Freedom has many prices, but this is not freedom; this is quite the opposite. It's free-range slavery.

~Frances

Priestess,

The Red Knight is one of tactics and battle. In all honesty, I believe she would find such duels to the death more honorable and worthwhile than simple duels of honor, because the mistake of tactics will result in ultimate death.

Walking into a duel, you know you will be walking out. True battle is not like this in the slightest. A warrior must always be ready and prepared for the end, and do what he can tactically to avoid such.

As for Mr. Redd overstepping his bounds, perhaps, however it was my knowledge that the Arena of the School was open to the public for duels of all sorts.
