[I didn't realize until after I'd already typed the whole thing up that it's a bit of a beast, so to ease your eyes I went ahead and bolded and italicized what I think are the major points, on the off chance you don't wanna read the whole thing.]
Dear Mr. Macasta,
Your name has been given to me as the name of a man of reputation, of wisdom, and of generousity. I come to you not asking for a hand-out, but asking for a mutually-beneficial arrangement by which we both may make better positions for ourselves.
My name is Frances Allegretti. I am a Priestess of Lurue and a Professor at the local School of War. Our School will soon find itself becoming more and more active in the community as our staff, led by the brave Headmaster Dederich, seeks out new ways to enlighten the adventurers and inspire the bravery innate to the hearts of men. It is my dearest hope that you will be willing to lend your aid in any way possible.
My first idea is that we work with the leader of your House Guard to facilitate a daily regimen for able-bodied men and women of Upper Sanctuary, building up a healthy appreciation for fitness and familiarization with simple weapons such as the spear, the quarterstaff, and the mace. While the staff at the School of War is a dedicated and varied group, it is yet small, and there is little oppourtunity to put on such an event each day.
This would be a class available primarily, if not exclusively, to regular citizens of Sanctuary who are not familiar with combat or common exercises. My intention is to make certain that should we ever face such a dreadful and tragic attack as we faced recently from the Chosen, which we at some point most certainly will, we are all prepared as a people united to defend our homes, families, and neighbours. My overall goal will be to make sure that every home is supplied with the necessary education to avoid panic in cases of emergency and stay calm enough to take countermeasures against attacks.
Specifically what I seek is a member or two from your House Guard to host these daily lessons. While being recognized as under the employ of Macasta they will put into action the initiatives written of above. Your men will be provided bunks at the School of War, as well as full meals and the freedom to return to your side without a moment's notice in situations where necessary. In exchange, you will have the admiration and gratitude of many Sanctuary citizens, and the oppourtunity to recruit promising students into your own personal retinue.
My second idea is that you sponsor a grand Tournament. For this tournament I will be gathering the very best and strongest of Sanctuary for a day-long exhibition of martial talent and prowess. The concept behind this is, to put it simply, to make the heroic, brave, and adventurous spirits of our brightest citizens known to all, as beacons of the power of Sanctuary. There are many in this city whose voices and actions are quelled by fear, but I know from personal experience what the power of a figurehead can do.
I would ask you supply the prizes for the Winner and Runner-up of the tournament, and lend the esteemed name and seal of Macasta to the advertisements on the days leading up to the tournament. Once again this will give you a keen oppourtunity to recruit from amongst the keenest blades of Sanctuary, but more than that, I am certain you will see a marked improvement in the spirit of the people of Sanctuary, during which we can all benefit, prosper, and more easily seek a joyful life.
Thirdly and most surreptitiously do I add the final request, that you yourself perhaps be willing to come and visit our School and impart what sage advice you have to the Headmaster, and the Staff such as myself. We would be most grateful if you could find the time some day soon to come visit our School; perhaps it will give you some idea of the merit of the ideas I've listed above.
Thank you for the time you took to read this missive, and especially for the consideration you're no doubt already paying. I most eagerly await your reply in either positive or negative, and wish only the very best to you and your family.
Lurue bless your spirit and grant you a life of joy and zest, ~Frances Allegretti, Priestess of the Unicorn Queen, Professor at the School of War
