While I appreciate your consideration in keeping me abreast of things so dutifully, even if it were an illusion, is it not the Council's duty to decide this in trial? If a man is killed, is it up to the Watch to decide if it was an accident or not? If someone is suspected of selling our secrets to the drow, can a Watch private release him because he thinks it's all a misunderstanding?

If so, then I am positively terrified.
