Gary Gygax - Dead
:(
Today is a day that will live in geek infamy.
:( indeed.
lol
The King of Nerds is Dead. Long live the King.
:(
9,000 XP for me!
Perhaps to do with the announcement of 4ed?
Seems logical.
Yeah it does, Kotenku. He died just in time to spin in his grave over 4E.
Anyone got a diamond?
:(
Edit: Morbid dread, regrettably, deity's cannot be raised by any form under an intermediate power. Unless maybe you cast stone to flesh on a god isle.
Who?
He was the man who made D&D.
*sigh*
:(
wow, i'm kind of upset.
He rolled a 1 on his fort-save vs. Life.
:/
Gary: Stats: Overlord. Alignment: True Neutral. Worshippers: All D&D fans. Alignment necessary to worship: All
History: creator of D&D, nough said.
Dogma: play D&D, nothing else is more important, give up your life for it, and praise the game above all us.
Rest in peace.
well said Kiaring.
To the creator of the game that made my childhood so much more interesting than it would have been otherwise.
RIP
Random_White_Guy He rolled a 1 on his fort-save vs. Life.:/
Just like Steve Irwin failed his reflex save on the save vs die against the stingray touch attack.
So many shit jokes :/
He was too young to die. T_T
Let us all take a moment and praise Gary Gygax for his contributions to the world.
m(_ _)m
RIP GARY
How can so many of you be so glib over this? I'm ill over this. Seriously. What this man added to all of our lives is nothing short of amazing, and I for one am in mourning.
*raises a pint* Godspeed, Gary Gygax!
I'm not glib at all. It's actually affected me more than I thought it would. :?
Cluckyx
Cluckyx, get back into EFU
So many good memories of discovering D&D when I was younger.
Secutor - cool comic-strip. I poured over the Tomb of Horrors artwork for hours when I first got it. Love that module.
Gygax - just amazing. A seminal artist.
Did he drop any good loot?
Rest in peace, Gary.
I hope he was a Christian, 'cuz I wanna RP with the man in Heaven.
Amazing creation. He's like Edison, only better!
R.I.P. could also be translated as "Roll in Perdition"....
In all seriousness, respect to the man. *claps his mailed fist to his breastplate*
9lives So many shit jokes :/
Oooh...lemme try!
[pours out a 40 oz healing potion on the curb for his hommie]
>.>
That better? XD
For those of you who have never met him, he was a pretty nice guy. I live about a half an hour from Lake Geneva and met Gary a couple times at Gen Con. I know he had his faults, but it's tough to have the guy responsible for all us nerds playing here gone :( Without him all of us may have never met!
He created a community, a culture, a religion. Hes like Jesus without all the need for worship. If you can start from scratch and end up with what we're all enjoying today, you pretty much have to be awesome. He was the greatest; Because every time you even try to compare something to a man like Gary Gygax, you are going to FUCKING lose.
R.I.P Gary Gygax :(
CONSPIRICY THEORY!
Wizards of the Coast Killed him!
Why you ask? He was against the idea of 4th Edition! HE knew Wizards of the Coast where turning a great game that was perfect into nothing he imagined! It was said he was going to the gaming Community to speak against the 4th Edition! However WIZARDS OF THE COAST COULDNT ALLOW IT! WOTC WILL KILL TO MAKE THERE GAME LOOK GOOD FIGHT THE POWER!
...
Rest in Peace.
Damn . . . just damn is all I can say about that . . .
Docter, you are increadible.
The thing is with 4E D&D rules, or 5th or 6th.. or any edition, the rules have got to 'work'. I'm not that concerned, because I can see how much money WOTC are making from re-releasing versions of D&D rules, concepts, books, figurines, and paraphenalia.
For example, look at any of the wide variety of NWNs modules created by players for online gamers. (all the various RP, PvP, PvM.. mods). We have the NWNs template and toolset; yet scripters and gamers will create their own world. Not all the gaming conventions or rules will apply, in every situation. Some will, some will not.
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th edition rules are guidelines for enjoyable gaming.
I think PlayerCharacter got it right by highlighting this idea: "The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules. - Gary Gygax
Imagination is paramount. Gary got that part of his life right. :D
