Yes. This suggestion is aimed at doing away with this thing that irks me when groups wander into the Underdark. Puddings and oozes look like, as their descriptions dictate, wet rocks or puddles of water. These monsters are translucent and usually colorless or of a mild color that blends in nicely with the nearly black caverns and tunnels of the UD. As such, a little bit of my precious immersion withers and dies when folk are strolling down Llolth Lane NE and they notice a bright red mass making their way towards them, a la tab. Open fire! Arrows and bolts pour into this poor, innocuous little puddle of hungry acidic mush. To solve people being able to notice from several meters away that pools of water or wet rocks may have intention of eating them, I suggest that rather high stealth skill be given to oozes and puddings.
Oh look, a puddle of water! Kill!
I can see these creatures having a high hide check . . . but move silently? I don't know. They still make a squishy sound when moving, most of the time any way.
A decent hide/move silent would be appropriate.
They don't make mushy noises when they slid over the rocks though, I disagree with the comment above me in that regard.
Some of them do have pretty good bonuses to stealth. At any rate, there's one thing that separates a puddle of water from a kill-you thing, primarily; puddles don't move.
I always think its funny when people pick off bats with crossbows.

PCs all have excellent aim.
I can see why PCs will kill them if they see them, experience, you see it once, you learn its hostile.

My point is that from several meters away in pitch black caves, surrounded by the possibility of really big monsters lurking around, noticing that a puddle of water is moving will be difficult, and discerning that movement between natural water flow (there's a lot of water in the UD) and hungry acid monster would be difficult.

Even if you know that some puddles of water or wet rocks will bite, you still won't be able to tell if it's mundane or a monster until you get close, considering that:

*Shoots puddles of water*
Soooo
Yea, give em 20 HIde or sometin.
I think I should amend my suggestion a bit. It's not so much having the stealth skills, but rather setting them in stealth mode on spawn, like cave prowlers.
I agree with Secutor's suggestions. These critters should be hard to pick out until they're dissolving your boots, even for those people that know about them.
Please be fixing if it's possible.
As much as I hate to say it, yeah, it's a good idea. Make them suckers harder to see from a distance at spawn.
As for the bats, can they be given the deflect arrows feat? I hadn't thought of how hard they might be to hit with missiles!
I agree that these little things should be hidden for the sake of mechanics and so on.
I would love it though, if there were the puddles tile used and when you walk over it, it acts like the spiders in the ettercap quest when they leap up behind you once you pass.
Though I don't know if this kind of 'ambush' scripting can be done on random spawns that we see out in the underdark.
At the very least, make them damn near invisible. Or...make them ACTUALLY invisible! Give them Imp Invis so you can't see them until they attack you!
Canonwise, they're suppose to have +10 Hide generally, becoming noticed only when they start moving at you often.
Okay, as for the bat, no. Do not make bats hard to hit. I will hit someone with a bat. (see Arabel home site)
As for the slimes, yeah, go for it.
How about making them immune to normal weapons?
*hits the water with his sword*
They have certain damage reductions to certain types of weapons already, I believe.
.. .. ..
Ubel!
Id like to see characters with low spot and listen getting pwned more in the underdark, so definitely yes!
