The explosions and deaths at the Donrick compound confirms something I have feared for many years about the Machine that is Dunwarren's doom. When Charles first led a weary band here to rest, they discovered the Chosen and waves of undead svirneblin and worst. Even the crypt where Charles now rests his body is a source of hauntings and undeath.
The orb that caused such chaos at the Donrick Compound, the Spellguard believed was the powersource that would fuel the Machine for at least 200 years. Rather, that unstable orb exploded and appears to have temporarily opened hole into the Plane of Negative Energy.
No scholar am I, but I know the undead. These things are tied to that Plane, and the greatest of undead-the Doom Knight poured from the shattered orb, as the necromancer called the Scholar likewise was served by Doom Knights and at least one Agent of the Spellguard.
Thus, I find I harbor the belief that the Machine itself is fueled by negative energies, or by the vacuum of life energy through some vortex. Might this be the true nature of the Chosen's Appetite or at least the purpose of the vast shaft that runs through Dunwarren? Does it not explain why the Deep Lizards travel to our gates to die, why the necromancer Thomas dwells so near to a land hostile to his expiraments?
How might we go about discovering more of this? Might the Seekers know any wizard willing to undertake a most deadly test to discover more information and thus enjoin to a plan that ferments in mine mind?
