CHILDREN OF THE MORNING

Dear (each letter bears the recipient's name),

As you know, I have had the idea of putting together a band of comrades who can call themselves both adventurers and defenders of the people for some time. If we can form a tight-knit band of comrades and friends, with the common goal of reaching the Surface and giving the people hope until we do.

Such was the effect of one such band with the very same inclinations - Lysik's Lancers - that the Watch saw fit to outlaw them.

Up Above, after the long nights that darken the world, the coming of light is heralded by the Morning, the moment in which the sun overcomes the obstacles of the horizon, to fill the world with joy and warmth. As above, so below. We must be that which heralds the coming of the light in the lives of these people. We must overcome all obstacles in order to make them believe and again embrace hope in a brighter future.

The Seekers have left Sanctuary in order to search for the way outside. I propose to you that there are enough clues to Fredrick Bresley's way, or even others, in Sanctuary itself, and that our efforts, to better assist the Seekers, must be focused on finding these clues in Sanctuary, as well as fostering hope and freedom amongst its people. Freedom from corrupt and unnecessary government. Freedom from greedy merchants who would rather sell the people a life down here than use their coin to look for means for all to escape. Freedom from men who embrace their duty to institutions that were not meant to be permanent in the first place. Freedom from men who believe themselves powerful, but only because they rule over a ruined city, using the crude remainder of a once-powerful construct to enslave the folk.

I propose to you that we name ourselves Children of the Morning, in honor of our goal and our common desire to witness one such event in communion with the people of Sanctuary, after our successful escape from this wretched deep.

In the tales, the companies of adventurers fit many molds and roles, but dearest to my heart are those who act as defenders of the lands they travel, spreading tales of mystery and joy and vanquishing great evils. I propose to you that we form the Children of the Morning to serve as example, inspiration and to actively seek clues and act against those who would sell the people half a life down here instead of giving their blood so that they can live fully Up Above.

Many archetypes of adventurers and heroes fill the adventuring companies of the realms, in truth and tales both. The confident swashbuckler will win his battles through wit and through lip. The brooding mage will step from the background when his council is desired, and study his magic and art to the extent that great doors and possibilities are opened to his comrades because of his talents. The stalwart defender will fight to the death for a cause in which she believes, as an icon to the people and a formidable ally to her friends. The idealistic songstress will write in prose and verse of the company and their exploits, and paint in the minds of the people the picture of their goals, and the battles they fight to complete them.

Together, and with other comrades we shall surely acquire along our sinuous and treacherous journey, we can accomplish this, and much more. We can give our people hope. We can give our people freedom. We can give our people the Sun.

I urge that we come together and meet, so that we can discuss many things: An uniform and headquarters. Possible recruitment strategies. Actions we must undertake together immediately. Stance and policy towards other organized groups. How can we assist the Seekers and help make Sanctuary ready for their return? How can we give the people hope?

These and other considerations must be seen to at once by ourselves. Send word of when you could possibly meet. If not, I shall find you about town, and hear what you have to say.

With love and in light,

your friend,

Clarion
