A Letter Delivered to Spellguard Officer Barkely.

Greetings, Officer Barkely,

Recently, one of your Agents brought to my attention that it is widely believed that members of the Watch Wizard program who performed their duties outside of warded buildings, are committing a crime.

Given that both yourself, and the Sheriff granted our program permission to use the Art in order to fulfill our duties outside of warded areas, I must say that I was taken aback by the comments from Agent Opalshore, who stated that I was committing a crime.

Common sense dictates that a member of the Watch, who also practices the Art, may at times be required to use it in order to apprehend those who commit illegal acts.

Because of this, I wished to write you, so that you might make it clear to the Agents within the Spellguard that the Watch Wizards are not committing a crime, by making use of the Art in unwarded areas.

This obviously, is some cause for concern, given the dangers that unwarded spellcasting may cause, even if the herb known as Abjurer's Nightshade is consumed. Thus, I wish to refer to your previous offer from four months ago, in which you promised that a modified Spellguard robe would be delivered to the Watch in order that my own unwarded spellcasting would no longer pose a danger to the city of Sanctuary. You stated that it would be delivered within a tenday, but since four months have passed, you may have forgotten such. I know that you are a busy man, so such would be understandable.

If the Spellguard does indeed have such concerns for unwarded Spellcasting within the Watch Wizards; then warded clothing ought to be standard, amongst us. I hope that you will take into consideration the risks to Sanctuary, and thus make available the robes you promised to deliver, in our prior conversation.

Sincerely,

Private Alyssara Nil'Vara

Private Nil'Vara,

I was quite convinced I had sent you a missive explaining the situation! Due to the decrease in our funding since our reintigration into the city we find ourselves hard pressed to maintain the various sytems within the city. For now at least I fear we could not afford the expense or time of our enchanters to create a modified garment for you. Yourself, your fellow Watch members and The Sheriff himself might consider asking The Council for an increase in our funding before their budget negotiations finish. If such is forthcoming then it is possible we may be able to find the resources to supply your Watch Wizard initiative with appropriate equipment to undertake their duties.

Agent Opalshore is also correct. Casting in unwarded areas constitutes a breach of Sanctuary security. I admit, I assumed that you prohibited your casting to buildings warded by Our Order. With this revelation I must insist that such actions desist. Such use of magic is very easily scryed upon by potential enemies of Sanctuary when cast outside our wards.
