I like to have my anti-law characters have an alias. However Iv'e found that people still like to believe they know my real name and report me to the watch every time I suggest rebellion, assassination, etc. etc. I think a good way to prevent this is to no longer recquire people to have their names above their head. This could make the game more realistic, like if I'm wearing a helmet when I attack someone and then run away, removing the helmet afterwards, they would have to think twice about whether I was the one who attacked them or not. I suppose there are some drawbacks to this, but it's just a suggestion.
Names above the character's head.

All of the reasons this is undesireable can be found in that thread!
make your characters name his alias then. Give him a real name only if he trusts folks.
Edit:: Ha! I took to long typeing this up. >_> They beat me toit.
A Previous Topic covering thisAs concerning your suggestion: Politely tell them OOC that you are disguised prior to any of these dealings. You could do that through emotes or what have you.
I typically refuse to name someone or call out an assumed name if they are wearing a different armor+helmed, or heck, I don't guess whose face who someone when they're helmed anyhow. Or I ask them in a tell first whether they are hiding whom they are.
However, sometimes people slip, sometimes they've seen you dressed up like that before, sometimes you give away who you are rather quickly.
I don't know if this can be added, I don't think it will be. Although I would value the ability to [mask] a name as an ooc signal that person is hiding whom they are- I don't believe it really adds all that much.
Maybe it's just me, but I thought the name over the PC was OOC knowledge. I take care to not call someone by name until my PC has actually learned their name. If your PC name is John Doe, and you use the alias John Smith. I should not be able to tell the watch to look for John Doe, and they, in turn, should not be trying to arrest John Doe.
You're right Underbard.
I full-heartedly agree with you guys who say you don't refer to someone by their name if it's given, but I'm talking about people who meta-game and say they know my name when they don't, leading my character to uneccesary close calls, like visits from the spellguard.
Yo yo.
If you think meta-gaming has occurred, please speak to a DM.
That aside, we won't be putting anything like this in place. The detractors outweigh the benefits, and the suggestion has been debated several times in the past.
