Prayers and Deeds of a Maggot

*Somewhere, a goblin can be heard preaching in simple words to other goblins.*

*He drapes a banner of Maglubiyet for his flock to see before he starts screeching and hissing in the guttural tongue of goblin kind.*

Fiery-Eyes, the Mighty One, the High Chieftain, the Lord of Depths and Darkness… Maglubiyet! Sons and daughters of He who is our only true god, hear me now so that you may learn of His and our greatness, and fear His retribution for unfaithfulness.

The Beginning

In the beginning, the world rebelled against the old gods. A war ensued in which the gods killed the world. From the blood of the gods, maggots were born who burrowed into the corpse of the world. In the darkness, the maggots feasted and celebrated the victory of the gods.

When the forces of light arrived, a sun was born in the sky that burned the eyes of the maggots. The maggots’ cries of pain were heard by the old gods. Angry at the light for hurting his children, one of the old gods, Maglubiyet, transformed the maggots into goblins. He told the goblins that the forces of light owed them a debt in blood and that they were always to remember the times of darkness when the gods of old ruled victorious, as they would again in time. To ensure this debt is paid, goblins must make war and keep their weapons bloody always.

*In time, further prayers and deeds are shared with those goblins who will listen, and forced on those who would resist.*

*A goblin sketches a crude battle scene as he tells the story of goblin afterlife.*

The End

Maglubiyet guards our home in the afterlife and welcomes all faithful goblins there. This home is the mighty domain of Clangor, on another plane of existence called Acheron, in a city called Grashmog, the Heart of Battle. From his throne of flaming iron Maglubiyet commands the souls of goblins, hobgoblins, and worgs to wage eternal war there, where defeated goblins rise anew each day to make endless bloodshed for vengeance and praise to Him.

*A mural on a back wall of Goblin Town displays a multiheaded snake biting crude likenesses of several humanoids.*

*The likenesses are too crude to be identifiable as the actual beings they might have been modeled after. Several of the drawings remain distinctly featureless. From time to time new likeness are drawn, each with a corresponding new snake head biting it.*
