Officer Berkley's Speech

[Posted at Rock Bottom, The Pissing Crone and the Staircases to Upper and Lower Sanctuary are these flyers]

After the drow attack on Sanctuary, Spellguard Agents made claims that they killed the mother matron of Traensyr, leading to the civil war and retreat of the drow. Spellguard Officer Berkley made a speech shortly afterwards. The Sanctuary Times is presenting this to all citizens at no cost. Logs of this speech were recorded by Jacob Geigne.

Officer Berkley Citizens, political rivalry between the Houses in Traensyr has granted us a reprieve from their aggression. The Spellguard has been monitoring the situation closely, but our policy is of non-interference in organizations beyond these gates. In an attempt to boost morale, agents unwisely decided to capitalize on their knowledge of this conflict and claimed to have been involved - which was not true. The agents have been put on administrative leave.

Questions Q: How did Agents decide to capitalize on their knowledge? A: They made a claim that they were responsible for the death of one of Traensyr's rulers, which was not true.

Q: What is the truth? A: As far as we can understand, actions between competing Houses miles and miles and miles away.

Q: What Agents have been put on leave? A: Agents Hectra and Wrinkle.

Q: Is it a permenant leave? A: That will be a decision made at a later point.

[Reynolt] Q: Officer, if these Agents have shamed your organization, why do you honor them with gifts? Items of Melinda Bresley, no less. A: As I said, they have been placed into administrative leave. [Denial of any gifts. The gifts were "Large glowing staves" as described by a Tigereye.] "They had those staves before the incident." "The staves were gifts for other, unrelated matters."

[Reynolt] Q: Officer, is it not odd that these Agents carry items of great power, after they were entrusted with the very items the Drow seek? These same drow offering -magical- trinkets for their return? Furthermore, is it merely coincidence after the Agents turn up with these staves that Traensyr is plunged into civil war? A: Councillor, you may be assured that the Council will decide what is done with the bones. Traensyr has been simmering on the brink of civil war for months, Councilor. Let me ask you a question. Do you hold such a high regard of our junior agents that they would be able to incinerate a matron mother of Traensyr? Please, this is all very unpleasant. It was a regrettable misstep that will be duly punished. [Reynolt] A: No. Frankly, I think your Agents aided the cultists who oppossed Traensyr, who are enemies of our own. If all bones cannot be accounted for, especially those I left in your care, then I think it is safe to assume they wre given to the cultists and will -not- be destroyed. [Officer] A: All the bones can be accounted for Councilor. But this is a subject of discussion that should continue privately. [Reynolt] A: And if this has plunged the powerful Traensyr into Civil War, then I might question what is to happen to us. To me, this entire battle waged at our gates reeks of deceit.

Blessed be our victory! But why the lies?

Volume III of the Sanctuary Times will elaborate on the attack and it's aftermath.

Volume II of the Sanctuary Times will be out shortly.
