Goblins

For players contemplating or already playing goblin PCs.

You can get cool goblin portraits and voice sets that other players can see and hear from this tutorial:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/188666/18642 (Some of the links and tools mentioned in this tutorial are outdated, but the instructions are essentially good otherwise. You'll need a different extractor than the one mentioned in the article to do it manually, or you can just grab the files as linked below.)

*Update 2/24/2008*

Here are two direct links to the data files for voices and portraits (I have not checked them.):

Portraits and Voice Sets

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=2056 (I believe there's also a faulty instruction here that tells you to put portraits in the override directory. Instead, I make a directory labeled portraits (ie. C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\portraits) and put the portrait files there.

Voice Sets

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=6701 (This .2da file should go in your override directory.)

Think goblins look like muppets? Check out this link to an awesome goblin skin override, originally posted at EFU by Oroborous, that makes your goblins look wicked and vicious like they should. (Recommended for everyone, not just players of goblin PCs.)

Let's play.

A quick addendum: Playing monster races is certainly not for everyone. Everything you've achieved can disappear in a second, even in locations where one would expect a modicum of safety when playing a non-monster race.

I would like some tips about gobo goals. Same with kobolds. I made a character once, but had no idea what to do with it, besides stay alive, which was ridiculously easy because I had no goals that led be into any danger at all.

Here are a few ideas for goals a goblin might have:

-become chief of the tribe (probably accomplished by leading an assault on a neighboring tribe). -protect the shaman -kill the shaman/priest/leader and become the new one -claim new territory in the name of the tribe (maybe get goblin town back) -become tribe ambassador to the city of Sanctuary -be a goblin rights activist fighting for your equal place in Sanctuarian society -conquer the city of Sanctuary -try to insinuate oneself in a mercenary group with standard race PCs -learn how to read (probably requires going outside the tribe and talking to a standard race character who knows how to read) -collect a slave labor force to build the tribe a fortress

For kobolds, much of the same applies, but keep in mind that, according to canon, kobolds are not quite as rambunctious as goblins (they cooperate better within the tribe, and have less intraspecific conflict, so the deposition of leaders is a less likely goal, though still possible). Kobolds are also well known for digging tunnels, mining, making traps, hating gnomes, and trying to associate themselves with dragons (they have a distant relationship with dragons, and most are very proud of this fact). Kobolds might be less inclined to deal with standard races than goblins are, since Kurtulmak advocates racial superiority, but you can always fudge that a little for the sake of player interaction.

I promise fun and interesting non-SQ stuff for any goblin rangers that want to come on board right now.

Public Notice

As a hardcore fan of the goblin, I wish to reiterate that if you are planning to play a goblin, or a kobold for that matter, you need to app for it to be of any good alignment, or even if you plan on being friendly or neutral to other races, I would app it.. You should plan on being hunted from the second your created. Unless you apped for a high intell/wis/char friendly neighborhood monster race, your little spawn of Maggz or Kurtlemak will be hard pressed to do anything other then fight or flee when encountering other races. There are ways to get along, but they involve (speaking mostly for goblins here) alot of invisibility and bribery. All of the monster pc's I have encountered seem to get this 100%, but some posts in other forums seem to indicate there are other "friendly"monster pc's out there. If you are one of these, I wish you luck, as you are playing already, but you will most likely be killed on site. Unless you are another evil PC's slave, for which you would be shunned by other monsterous races as a traitor, "the friendly monster" is incredibly hard to pull off. It has been done, but is the rare exception, not the norm. There is a core group of goblins playing regularly right now, and I wholeheartedly encourage anyone to give it a go, but if you do, find your goblin brothers and sisters as soon as you can, and remember the addage "strength in numbers*, never truer then when applied to goblin life!

Is socialmisfit still around? I have requested membership some days ago but still didnt get an answer.

Long gone I think

I would love it if players bothered to leave things in order when they go.

Since it's not the case, could a DM please include me in the forum? And appoint someone else as moderator? :(
