You should probably leave these forums open. There's no reason to get annoyed besides working yourselves up, so you can always just ignore the subforum until you're ready. At least, temporarily convert them to a "Open Concept" forum where people can go to drudge up players interested in starting a group concept together. It's nice to have your friends in a group with you, but it's just as nice to sign on with some strangers.
Prelude forums
As that's a completely different thing, I'd rather make a new forum for it. I like order.
It's also not really a matter of ignoring the sub-forum till we're ready, because the truth is that many of us will never be. Meanwhile, players are getting their hopes up for nothing.
If we are going to run more preludes in the future, it's much more likely to be the sort of preludes middenheap suggested.
If you really plan on getting rid of the prelude system then I think you're making a mistake. I think that was one of the main selling points that got me to stay around EfU, because of its creativity. At any rate, why not just hire on a new DM who does want to run Preludes?
Because he would grow jaded, as mostly all other DMs who have run preludes in the past have. There are very few people who actually continue prelude characters for any real length of time. Our time is much better spent rewarding established characters with quests and loot than a bunch of characters we will never see again.
Besides, we haven't really decided to get rid of the prelude system now, all of a sudden and completely unmotivated. There hasn't been a real prelude in a very long time, and not even players have been particularly interested in them for a long time except for the past week. We're just officially archiving the forum to prevent what is, in essence, pointless posting.
So the problem is that people make prelude characters and don't stick with them mostly?
That is a very big part of the problem.
I'll do it.
Peronaly i'd much rather prelude system stayed in place but thats just me. How does everyone else feel about this?
Why not require that anyone playing through a prelude stick to the character in the future?
I'm sure if you take your concepts to the DMs, and they dig it, they would still run one. The fact is, that forum sat unused for months, and suddenly there's a desire for it now that it's gone!
Just talk to them. They're reasonable folks! They'll still run them, if the ideas solid enough. No forum necessary.
Oroborous Why not require that anyone playing through a prelude stick to the character in the future? There isn't really any way to enforce that, and the only way to punish violation of such a rule would be collectively (leaving us where we are now) or for us to manually keep track of every single offender and prevent them from pulling similar stunts in the future (which is just a lot of work for us).
ItalianStallion I'm sure if you take your concepts to the DMs, and they dig it, they would still run one. The fact is, that forum sat unused for months, and suddenly there's a desire for it now that it's gone!Basically. As long as you don't expect us to say yes.Just talk to them. They're reasonable folks! They'll still run them, if the ideas solid enough. No forum necessary.
Fair enough.
