As a player, I do not expect people to actually read through all five pages in the FAQ I posted a while ago. As a DM, however, I do.
As far as possible, all our (important) policies are explained in that thread, and we will deal with issues under the assumption that players have read and understood our policies. "I didn't know," assuming the issue in question is explained satisfactorily in above linked thread, therefore isn't a valid excuse. Specifically when it comes to matters such as PvP is this important to understand, as failing to do so could put you in very unfortunate situations.
If I make important changes to the thread (such as the PvP section), I will make it very clear that I have done so. Other than that, I expect people to figure out by themselves what they may and may not need to know about (such as our stance on killing familiars/animal companions).
