Darkness (In General)

Here is a quick suggestion that I will toss out there.

This may fall into the category with my other "starvation" suggestion as too difficult, or too realistic, but I, at least, would like to hear the feedback. I've been down in caves before, deep down, and the tour-guide shut off the lights and it was pitch blackness.

With that in mind, I was wondering could Sanctuary be made any darker than it already is? Among the many races, humans should have the most difficult time just walking without a torch or some light on their person. To me, it would make questing a lot "creepier" when you are surrounded by darkness, sorta like in the Pitch Black movie. Having one or two party members dedicated to holding torches and shining the way while the others fought would be pretty awesome.

I know the lit braziers, scattered around the streets, wouldn't be able to put out enough light to illuminate the the entire city as they do. I also know that there are some areas outside of Sanc that are already pretty dim as is, but my point being, is that "light" in general just isn't much of an important key factor of survival way down here in the Underdark as it should be.

Here's a question (or two): Does torch light increase the chance of revealing a hidden PC? Also, do torch lights increase the chances of discovering secrets/traps while in dark areas?

There's my suggestion for the weekend topped with two questions. :)

We can only make areas so dark. If that's not enough, you'll have to adjust your own gamma. And I believe lighting decreases stealth modifiers rather than increase Search and Spot modifiers (which is appropriate).

I would love it if we could make some areas super dark, but studies show players just tend to increase their gamma all the way so it has no effect whatsoever. (Not saying everyone does it, but it happens)

Lame-o.

I think having light around you (like from an item with a light radius) does indeed add a small bonus to spot and search. The stealth system is very very convoluted. I know there is more information about it at the nwn wiki, which you can search for on google.

I think it says somewhere that people should adjust the gamma to whatever they want. I don't think it's lame to turn it up, since I'd rather people do that rather than get huge headaches or not play on EfU at all (as some have said they do, since it's so dark!).

But if you want it to be crazy dark, I think that's awesome, and just adjust your gamma accordingly, and get light items.

Having a light source on your person does appear to modify spot if it is at night (rather than dark, I guess).

Additionally, every area on EfU has adjusted spot/listen modifiers - so some areas it will be substantially harder to hide in, etc. And some areas much easier.
