I've been reading some of the player journals and was wondering, are these something that one would know about? in character, i'm not sure why I would know "The life and times of Frederick Taylorson", though after reading through it maybe I would as a really evil story that people tell around a pint at the Crone or something...
I'm just wondering what the thinking was around these? are they just interesting writing?
I mean if I run into "Aleczumberzeil" in a hallway one day it might feel odd saying "Hey, so that zombie kid story was really creepy, nice work...".... I'm joking of course.
Thanks.

As far as I know, they aren't.
They are the private journals of that particular person, unless specified in the journal thread.
I think the original idea of that forum was to give players the chance to write about a character's life before sanctuary so people have something interesting to read.
Anyway, basic answer: No. Unless specified otherwise.

They are as private as they are IC. It's giving players a shot at creative writing and, for the most part, allowing other people OOC insight into the author's character, which can sometimes explain a lot of things. They can also be very useful for DMs.

That's what I figured, just wondering.
Thanks.

I have used the Journal writing to brainstorm ideas for my character as he became involved in events in-game, as well as to provide ongoing notes and plots of things to attempt to achieve in-game. I also have written in order to provide DMs with optional food for thought.
Many of the Player Journals I have read have been amazing - definitely.
I have also used the Faction forums as a kind of Journal Writing and Report Writing creative endeavour in order to, again, provide optional food for thought for DMs and other players in the faction. I suppose my only downfall in this regard was writing notes and reports on just about every plot that may or may not have been taking place in-game. My reasoning was that if I threw enough darts at the same target (target=unknown creepy plots taking place in-game),, something was bound to stick, and a plot sequence of events may unfold for my character and others in-game.
Clear as mud? I'm still working on mastering the art of eloquent communciation :) Tis one of the many reasons why I play EfU.
The Journal Forum , the Letters Forum, Flyers, Public Notices Forums, and Faction Forums have always been in my mind a stepping stone for developing characters in-game, so that players and DMs can continually co-create the milieu.

It can be IC knowledge, if they show it to you. or RP showing it to you.
On Vilmar Be'tense, I had a point where I showed my journal to a couple people, and they happened to write afew notes in it themselves. I thought it was kind of cool, and it lets other peopels characters inside your mindset as well, not just them as a player.
:D But unless you see the journal IG somehow - it's ooc knowledge.
