A bit of an odd question here but in regards to a cave prowler would it be classed as a canine, feline, or something else?

Also when using the commands to speak through an animal companion what would be considerd possible in regards to it interacting with other people? (I know it talking is out but would it be able to understand or have a vague idea what people around it were saying or doing and be able to communicate or react in some way)
