Letter to Seeker Toman

You lied. Why?

I know why Jones is dead. What purpose does it serve to inspire more hatred, to inspire more wrath?

I write you first. I'm not going to call this out, instill even more unrest in our section of this city. And I won't condone any actions of this rogue Seargant of the Watch either. But the violence has to stop somewhere and lies and dissent aren't helping anyone. It's not promoting life, it's not keeping anyone safer, and we're sure as hell not going to find the surface faster by provoking/combatting the Watch.

I would have expected this sort of thing from Jones, may the Gods rest his soul; his rage is so seated as to blind his better judgement it would seem. As for you Toman, I thought I knew you better. I urge you to make no further efforts to pursue this bloody nonsense. The Seekers and Ascensionists are the enlightened ones here. At least you've got hope where most of the Watch and Upper does not. Use that hope wisely and fruitfully. Foster freedom, but also foster peace.

Lucius,

We both know the Watch attacked Jones. We both know Sergeant Lothor attacked him cowardly. We both know that I carried his nearly broken body back from the raid so that he could possibly recover. He wasn't able to. And I had to make it so that people would know of his death. And so I did. I didn't call anyone to murder the Watch. I did not call anyone to murder Sergeant Lothor.

You assume that I seek only to cause violence and death with what I speak. That is wrong. You assume that I lie, when there is much that could and has happened. You assume many things Lucius and I thought you knew better than that.

Recent events in the past have caused me great grief, as you may or may not know. I have never claimed to be enlightened or to be unable to make a mistake of judgment, even though I try to and to set the highest standards as possible for myself. I have little desire to get involved in the games of political trickery and deceit, of that, I assure you.

Come to Lower and talk to me if you wish, in private, if at all possible. Then I might as well explain a few things and I can know for sure what you think, instead of an accusation and an ultimatum against me in a piece of paper , or whatever that was. You would certainly be welcome to try.

Foster freedom.

--- Seeker Vashan

Jones was dead at the burning concoctions shot from formless acidic beasts. I brought him back to life with the power if Lord Ilmater to continue his warring against our common foe. A second time he fell, and this was to the twirling blades of three drow warriors. At the time, you were either incapacitated and holding onto life or you were fighting the very same foes- I cannot correctly recall who else carried on our fight to the bitter end.

We'll discuss this face to face. But here is the truth of the matter, as it occurred before my eyes.
