Druid and Bard armors.

Druid as most people know eschew the wearing of metal armors and shields.

To cover this I'd suggest the following thing be added to ALL normal armors of armor class >3 (chain shirt and beyond) **Not usable by druid.**

Of course there will be some exceptions like armors made of stone lizard scales (same ac as scale male =5 ), special hide armors (ac4) , petrified mushroom breastplate , ironwood plate (same ac as banded mail) and other exotic non-materials should be much harder to get and probably quite expensive to have made or to buy.

---------------------------------------------- Although we're in a 3.0 world and not a 3.5 one, the bards ability to cast in light armor would be a nice flavour addition.

To cover that maybe you could make SPECIAL bard armors that have these clauses on them.

Arcane Failure -5% (for padded, -10% for leather, -20% for studded) Only Usable by Bards Not Usable By sorceror Not usable by wizard.

This will stop multiclassing wizards/sorcerors from being able to cast their arcane magic in that armor simply by getting 1 level in bard.

This was done elsewhere by making it so that all non wooden/iron wood armours would give 100% spell failure to a druid for wearing em.

Druids of Mielliki though, are allowed to use Medium Armor. Hard to do it that way.

Yes as coldburn said certain druids can use metal, so it would require scripting rather than "not useable by"

Making Heavy Armor Not Usuably: Druids could be done, but I just don't see the point in it.

On the other hand, Version 3.5 states that a Druid can wear as many armor as seems appropriate, or something similar. Perhaps it's appropriate for a Dwarf Druid of Grumbar to dress fully in steel? I would not know.

It simply seems to much a hassle, at any rate.

It has always seemed easy enough for me to RP my druid and just not use armor he is opposed to. If people want to break that rule, fine. I figure even things like chainmail could be used, if you turn it into wood via barkskin or something. Trying to script all that would be a tall order when self-regulation makes for neat RP, IMO.

Now, on the other hand, I would love to see more unique and special class-based armor and whatnot hidden around the world or even better, given as good-RP rewards. Special oaken armor for a druid of silvanus, a claw amulet for a druid of malar ect.

Doesnt really require scripting at all, just changing of the items themselves.

As for exceptions like mielikki using metal armors, you can make a seller specifically for them that ONLY SELLS to people with mielikki as a deity field. Then it sells them the armors that are valid, this doesnt cover people trading them though or finding them on a body of a mielikki druid.

Of course i'd simply not worry about one exception , and blanket ban all druids from wearing metal armors by their definitions. The armors that are made of non-metal substances would be available just at a higher price elsewhere (and likely lighter anyway).

As always they're only suggestions, and implementations of suggestions takes effort, so they're a take it or leave it kind of thing. I only suggested it because it's closer to the core rules and makes sense game wise.

p.s. Does grumbar even have druids?

Adding that property to every single armor in the game isn't really something that can be reasonably done. On the other hand, we could apply some sort of spell failure or other penalty for druids (not of Meilikki) who wear metal armor (except for special druidy armors).

The real question is: would that be desirable?

As for whether Grumbar has druids-- I believe that there was a substantial discussion about this earlier on. I don't remember what the final verdict was... perhaps MithralDragon or MrCheezIt do?

When I think of Druids I think of things bio: bio-luminescence, bio-chemistry, etc. Does anybody remember Star Trek:Voyager and the big hammer headed creatures from another dimension with the bio-ships? Now, that's Druid like, the ships, not necessarily the big heads. Not sure the Borg are a good model for Druids despite their penchant for bio-mechanics. The Borg would probably be considered an Aberation.

Growth and decay, transmutation, should be the way of the druid. Unfortunatly, BW and WoTC didn't really get this concept. So, Druids always feel a half-backed to me, despite their advantages and style.

Make more body parts that Druids can use, more shapes to shift into, etc.

P.S. I haven't played a Druid on EFU and I'm getting the hint that it has been customized. Awesome! Thanks, EFU, I want to try one out.

Also you still constantly fail to take into accoutn. What if your roleplaying a bad druid? or a druid who has'nt got his spells, you should still be able to wear the armour you have profiency in.

All nice and well, but the game Dungeons and Dragons revolves around the rules set by WoTC. Those rules we play by, not Star Trek.

(And please, I haven't seen all the Star Trek episodes yet, no spoilers please :P)

I know we don't use Star Trek rule set. I was just saying what I think is the correct theme for Druids and that BW/WoTC didn't do them justice.

Point taken, they could use the same scripting they use to put spell failure into clerics with the wrong domains, though that may only be happening as people logged on.

If it was on armor it would need to be applied/removed each time a character removed/wore some armor, and the way crafting of armor works currently works that may mean it's running a lot more times than it needs to. Not sure what the overhead would be on it, but it being a triggered script helps.
