I prefer knowing as little as possible. I'm assuming that our characters will be all arriving escaped slaves, new to the city with little knowledge at all of anything. Hence, high immediate player death. "OH, so that was a minefield of poisonous mushrooms guarded by a cave troll. Hopefully, people in town learn to warn about it soon."

My other hope is that since the setting is still so inchoate, that should it be discovered that priests of Lathander are very, very, very active that a temple to Lathander would be developed in the location. If priests of Orcus are more common, then they'd have the temple and dominate local religion. Etc etc and so forth.
