Last night there seemed to be 28 players in game with a stated capacity of 25 places available. Do Hin count as half a player?
More practically - didn't this used to be a bigger server?

Major DM quests cause major lag. Sometimes capacity needs to be lowered for limited time. You saw it happening last night. Hence, people already in stayed, but couldn't get back in until there was less than 25 players.
Yeah Kingcod is back
There was a lot of lag last night and a lot of DM's on running the Scholar's dm quest so as has been said the lowered it to reduce the lag i guess they forgot to post it on the forums though and as far as i know after the event the cranked the numbers back up.
W00T 500th post
True, the DM quest it was. Thanks for that. The lag was horrible. Even when it only was 25 online. Thanks for sacreficeing your play time for us...
EFU's player limit will be 50 on most nights.
there was a time about a year ago when the server was bumped up to 50 players and two different DM's were running events in very separate sections of the module.
Imagine what that was like!
IMO - If you're basically just running a private quest, and closing down the server to anyone who -isnt- on the quest, Why not just locally host it on a separate PC, d Portal the characters to that server temporarily? Then everyone else can play, the ones on the quest should have alot less lag, everyone is happy.
And Yes, I realize there could be an issue of the players on one might (or at least should if they were on the same server) run into each other. But the chances of that are slim, and I think overall it would keep more people happy, and people's addictions satisfied.
Just my thoughts.
A private server wouldn't have all of the custom content and commands of EfU for the DMs to use to make the quest fully immersive and spectacular.
Additionally, not all of the DM's are equipped to host a large scale quest such as one which would require server limit being lowered.
The server limit is entirely at the will of the DMs, really. They chose 50, when they could've chose 60, or 40 or 10. It's all really very malleable.
It was only for a few hours anyway, and of the 25 people allowed in, only ten players (but admittedly rather many DMs) were involved.
It's the will of the dm's and i can understand the scripting issues but it's a little unfair to the rest of the player base who are trying to log in at the time i think an announcement should have been put up on the forum advertising it so that we as players who could not log in understand what is going on.
I'm not sure what there is to understand. >.> The decision was made mid-quest, it was never meant to be permanent, and everybody can see the max client limit at any given time. If it was a permanent change, yes, we would have made an announcement, but it wasn't. I think I can safely say that we reserve our right to do such things again in the future without notifying you.
It just happened to be this way.
All to all, player limit was lowered, as there happened to be event where a large party of players was in a limited area, and there was alot of interaction. This kind thing causes lag, and it's been seen before that it most of the time leads to crashing server if there's even nearly enough players to fill the server and rush line up it's functions.
I've lost items on that kind crashes, where event has been going, fight has broken and people went dying. It's no fun to anyone when your movement is consisted of 5 meter warps and 10 second dragging lag for your commands. It was for rather short time in general, and it was better this way. In my opinion.
Kingcod, it is just one of the great mysterious of life one must cherish.
Snoteye I think I can safely say that we reserve our right to do such things again in the future without notifying you.
I am taking my ball and going home :P
I just meant a quick message even explaing we lowered it and it's back up it woud take a dm what 5 seconds to do?
You guys are hilarious. You know... there was a time when EFU's max players was FAR from 50 player at a time. Also, if it was -you- on a sweet DM quest you would be all for it. Try not to be greedy, a few hours of no EFU wont kill you.
On another note it was 'shouted' in game, plus you are always welcome to log into IRC channel #efu and ask about it there. Is it the DM's fault you might be to lazy to download an IRC client, nope.
I personally think a few hours of this can be accepted, because the events that cause this are often important and will affect the server in some way. Thus it will pay back in time.
I guess.
