Tracking

Strife said that tracking will be changed so that Rangers no longer track PCs. Why is this?

I can see the sense in not giving PC names but why should a Ranger not be able to track a PC to at least some extent?

Because there's some potential for abuse. Someone can stand at the top right corner of an area, and spam the tracking ability, until someone appears at the botton left of the area, and then ICly (despite the person never having been anywhere near the top right) know that the aforementioned person has entered the area.

Tracking usage had never been examined, though it was recorded. The moment we looked it up, we discovered it was being widely lamed in ways that were not intended (e.g. as a permanent radar for PVP), and it was not just isolated to a single player. This is a temporary change (though it may be awhile) until a better tracking system can be implemented that is hopefully closer to our idea of 'tracking'. We have never been 100% satisfied with the current system, but it was only recently that we discovered it was being abused for a such a long time.
