Ettin Camp Modification

I won't go into the details of this whole quest, but my suggestion is to possibly modify some of the terrain.

When you first enter, and then at least two more times, you come across stone walls that have gates in them. The only way to pass the wall is to walk through the gates....which makes sense. That being said, the creature AI doesn't recongize this stone wall as something solid and commences to fill the entire party with arrows.

Sure the party can just simply return fire through the wall, with bows and spells, but...everytime this happens, it suddenly seems to take away from the situation. I've heard people justify it by saying " It's shooting over the wall " and such...but it just seems so unlikely. A creature who has a +2 or 3 AB, who can't normally hit me from 2 ft away, can indirect fire an arrow at an unseen opponent? Even a PC who has a +13 AB, shouldn't be able to do this. Hell, Arcane Archer has a feat just for that situation. ;)

I propose maybe chasms with bridges, vice stone walls. Or at least making the walls into something that a player and creature could reasonably see through.

If no one agrees with my thought process....I'll quietly resume my shooting from the rear. ;)

I could be wrong about this but i actually dont think the walls are very hifh there more like small barricades than anything else also if you watch the animations they do actually shoot over the wall.

Ive always just thought of it as a form of volly fire.

The animation does show the arrows going through the wall, but like Vanfolkenfanel said, just pretend that they're shooting over it with a good lob.

It would be best to make the walls solid enough to not be able to shoot through them, but I don't think it's possible with those pieces of the toolset. Another option might be to lower the walls slightly, to give an idea of why the goblins can shoot over them?

A small cosmetic change, turning the walls into chasms might eliminate the uncertainty of players about if they are exploiting by shooting them through the wall.

Vlaid chasms

Oh ho, as expected from Vlaid-sama!

Way i look at it is if they can shoot at you then you can shoot at them so i cant see why anyone would think this could be an exploit.

I think the point might be the fact that the goblins can see through the walls, not that they can lob arrows over them.

NPCs can't exploit. They don't consciously take advantage of ooc mechanics to gain an IC advantage.

I think its pretty damn easy for goblins to shoot over the wall, and you can ignore the graphic glitch.

just considering how many of the little buggers there are volly fire makes perfect sence..... i mean dear god its almost like watching 300 some times without all the loin clothes and bad acting.

It actually really freaked me out when I first done that quest, I just keep telling myself that there's a huge imperial Goblin yeoman squad behind the wall firing volley after volley of arrows, many miss but still some hit their mark by chance - which is kind of the case except instead of an archer army it's more like 4 Goblins, a Goblin Archer, and couple of Rogues. The bridges and chasms thing sound good though, at least then PCs can see the enemy without sweeping a cursor over every mm of the screen looking for a Goblin, only to find out it's already dead by the time you get a shot off, while the rest of your party are being mauled by worgs and elites. :x

This thread reveals the lack of knowledge many of you have for the toolset and tileset design.

It won't be changing. They're firing over the wall.
