What is the common belief of what the machine is?
Just a bunch of advanced gnomish gadgets?
Or do the common people believe that the BORG has come, and resistance is futile?
Or perhaps some super intelligent calculator with an inferiority complex?
Just wondering what the most public face of what the machine is, not what the adventuring populace know/believe of it.

Totally a FOIG question, Vlaid.
But, I imagine a lot of Sanctuary's populace simply don't know what to make of it.

How can you FOIG what a bunch of nameless citizens feel about the machine? <_<
I'm sure DM's do not want me to waste their time IG by asking them to posess a long string of sanctuary citizens simply to ask "eh chap how bout that machine eh?"
Thanks, regardless.

It really does depend. Citizens in Mycopolis would probably hate and fear it, the Spellguard area would think it's an incredibly valuable tool, the people in the Residential District would just think it very strange, people in Lower sort of dimly associate it with Spellguard and thus bad, and so on.
But every NPC, just as every PC, has their own opinion.

A lot of them would at some basic level understand that this "machine thing" does bring up water, which makes life possible. And at some level you can see the animatrons walking the streets protecting the city, so there is that as well. But there are faction differences, as Howland has posted.
