To everyone who has ever stalled a character concept because "it's already been done before" --
I want to take this golden opportunity to point out that the basic outline of core's character Elia Vendrask is not particularly new or original, yet there are presently three pages of kudos and honors on her death thread.
Your character concept does not have to be ground-breaking for your character to shine. You do not need a convoluted background in order to stand out from the crowd. You just need to play your concept faithfully, and let the chips fall where they may.
That is all.

Well, playing an extremely quirky, crazy character can be very tough. On the flip-side, playing an utter stereotype gets boring quickly. Your character has to have intricacies, nuances and some amount of originality. Elia had numerous small nuances, mostly that people didn't see, unless they were on the wrong side of the quarantine cell!
Keep it simple, I'd say. You'll get tangled up in a convoluted concept easily! Come up with a concept you like, and go for it.

I would like to do a 'It's been done before' post, with a link to an earlier thread that is somewhat similar.
But, tbh.
I can't be arsed.

I somehow am not convinced that the number of posts behind a "my guy died, here are screenshots" is actually a scientific method of determining if a character was great.
Often, its really a measure of how many players like the player whose character died.

That can't be true; imagine the many posts Kalandra's topic would earn!
Oh burn.

The very concept of this thread is quirky and convoluted, but the sheer amount of replies to it prove its effectiveness! Good job!
In other news: core vs. 'borous, to the death. Friday night, 8pm, 9 Central. FOX.

This thread has been officially derailed, and has now instigated FEMA action (for more information, go to http://www.fema.gov/). Formaldehyde concerns are put on hold, and this thread is locked to allow for a more thorough investigation.
p.s. the basic idea behind the thread, I agree with. Don't worry if something has been done before, after all, just about everything that can be done on earth has been done by one of the other 6 billion people on the planet, including such gems as shoving spoons in their asses hilt deep. I've seen it happen.
