Goblins... at last. >.>

Heya, guys. I have no idea if any of you even have the slightest inkling of who I am, but I've played characters such as... Rotgut DeGromshot! Half-orc war-chanter guy. Prikket Ashencroft! Halfling Cleric of Arvoreen. And... some elf sorc who's name I can't remember!

I know, I'm practically famous. *Sage nod.*

Now, I stopped playing here for a while, and upon my return, I discovered that goblins no longer need applications to play. I nearly wet myself in joy, and dusted off my old account: Goblins4Life.

Now, I just made my little greenskin, but I have some questions, so I sit in the entry area as I think them over. I've done searches in the forums, so I'll ask about what I couldn't find.

1.) I know what I'm getting into when I make a goblin. My character is doomed to die pathetically in some dark cave or something, to be looted and possibly eaten by other EfU players. That's totally fine with me. :) But... I'd like to at least spend 10minutes walking around with my first gobbo. Any advice as to where most goblins tend to start?

I mean, I can only assume Gobblah would have some rudimentary knowledge of his surroundings, given that he's alive. I know if I spawned in Upper Sanctuary without applying for guest status I'd be gone real quick. Where should I go, though?

Lower Sanctuary? Is there a place that's at least temporarily safe for me to jump to when I arrive? To get my bearings, so to speak. If I just start in the UD, are there any known goblin-tolerant areas I can make a run for?

2.) Is it cool to RP as coming from a totally made up tribe? Atm I plan on RPing him as coming from "Da Broken Toof Clan." I don't know if it's frowned upon, but as my goblins die, I plan on making more goblins of this clan. And yes, I know it's wrong to just make re-hashes of old, dead characters. They'll be unique... just all goblins. :) I love goblins. >.>

3.) Any other misc. advice for a new goblin??

4.) Omg, this post is way longer than I intended. >.< I'm sorry. =P

I'd like to add a special monstrous races starting position for humanoids, but it hasn't been done yet. At any rate, you can start in Lower Sanctuary safely enough, no NPCs will attack you and PCs probably won't either. From there the tunnels/sewers are probably your best bet, although watch out for the rats (a little bit of stealth goes a long way).

Welcome back and enjoy your character. The Broken Toof Clan sounds cool to me.

I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to link to that post someone made a while back in which I posted some setting info on goblins...

What Howland said!

Also this.

In my experience, monstrous races get along fairly well in Lower, so long as they're not intimidating slavers like Drow, etc. Everybody except SaRF has played a goblin PC at least once to try it out, so I'm sure there will be a good deal of sympathy for your situation.

Sympathy? Ha! prepare to be Pwnt, newb! :P

Otherwise: Your fairly safe in lower as long as you dont start anything. Now if you run around killing beggar children, I cant say youll do too well.

Fairly safe in Lower? It's a lie! Kobolds will get pwned because people are coming out of the Chuckers quest and think they missed one.

I saw a kobold in upper yesterday.

I would have killed it, but there was no DM.

The moral of the story: if you're playing a beastie, don't go to upper.

Maybe it was a shadow tribe kobold. They're supposed to be safer, I think.

:( Kobolds. -4 Strength. I can't in good conscience play such a weak character!

Da Broken Toof Clan sounds a good idea.

Buppi needs a "home". 8)

And yes, play monstrous characters is tough.

My most famous monsterous character was masth the Snake tongued, and I have a couple Gobbo PC's I have sneak around lower when I am bored.

Ha, Rotgut! I remember him, he was fun. I played Dugbone, by the way.

Making long lasting and successful monster characters is totally possible. In fact, Dugbone made it to level five almost on his own, and got even higher later when he made good "friends". Of course, I consider him successful for other reasons, not just levels. It really helps to get a few other players to join you in your greenskin quest, so you ought to consider asking around and getting a couple of others to play with ya. Of course, this isn't entirely necessary.

One big thing about having successful monster characters is to have goals. From what I've read, you have your head on and know what you want to do with your little monster, so that's directed towards others. Let me expand on that though...

Keep your goals feasible, at least for now so you can keep yourself interested- and others in your neat plot ideas. Example minigoals:

-Earn a free pass to Upper by proving that you can be a good merchant. -Try and join the Seekers. -Work for the Crone. Have other goals in line as well, this is a great stepping stone to achieve other things. -Join a gang. -Find a new protector for the goblins, since Mresh the Maur is dead. -Lay out territorial boundaries in the sewers for the goblins, and enforce them. -Gain admission to the Gruzzle Tribe. This is actually something I can run as a mini-quest with Dugbone, if you're interested in this. I can do this for just one person, but the more people you can get involved in this the more fun and more interesting it will be since I'll have some leeway in what I can ask you to do. -Seek out more goblins to enlarge the numbers of the Gruzzle Tribe and the goblin population in the Sewers in general.

Bigger goals for your devious little monster... -Start a monster gang in Lower -Form a criminal synidcate -Take over a building in Lower. -Raid Upper Sanctuary, then high-tail it and hide. -Get nuts, do something you never thought you'd see a goblin do. Run for council, whatever. Go big or go home, baby!

Catch me in IRC and I'll be able to give more detailed advice on playing monster races. There are a lot of tricks you need to learn for yourself though- how to get gold, how to tell apart people who would attack you and people who won't, where to quest, how to stay alive, etc.

Zomg. >.> I really hope you don't mind if I borrow some of those goals, and even very squarely and literally state them as clearly defined IC goals. =D

My first goal of course... to find empty bottles in lower. =P Thanks for all the help! And I'm still not totally clear about the whole IRC thing, I've accidentally achieved it once.
