From what i witness, folks gather in the arena, spar, RP a lot (which is cool, of course), but unless a dm is there and grants a few xps, the folks actually lose something: coins on healing.
Perhaps having a training dummy to click on and have something like convert 1000 coins into 10 xp?
Same for mages who want to improve (ie. gain lvls) without having to slaughter anyone, but through actual research? Having a study where they click on a pile of scrolls and convert 1000 coins into 10 xp?
Priests who ... ..(actually donate coins to some temple  )...
Rogues who ... :?:
Never mind the figures (1000/10), you get the idea. What's the feedback on this one? (save the "powergamer" remarks).

as much as I see the logic behind this, I really don't think this is going to work. People could just come in there pay 1000 coins (which many players have 10's of thousands of coins) and metagame the object.
If you are going to RP something, then get a DM, or just RP it without one and deal with using herbs and potions to fix the problem.
I honestly don't think this will get approved....

There are scripts for this...maybe doing this once for every 24 hours? Once of every reset?

How much can you learn by hitting a wooden dummy, granted that where most of your learning comes from the continuous placement of oneself in harms way and fighting troglodytes, drow, and deep lizards?
How much can a wizard really learn by repeating the same ray of frost or endure elements spell over and over again? Enough to learn how to cast a new fireball spell that he had not known before?
Plus, sparring teaches the player and character plenty already. It's a great way to improve your PvP techniques, guage other character's combat abilities...
Also, having a wizard sit in a room and "study" isn't exciting, nor is does it promote Roleplay interactions in the slightest.
There is some merit to the suggestion, don't take me wrong, but it's not directed towards the goal of EfU: Roleplay interaction. On the other hand, what if a character was able to "teach" a character who also had the same class but of lower levels (let's say 3) some and "pass his experience" on to the lower level player as a once/day thing 25 XP per level difference over 2. This is just an example formula.
So a level eight fighter could grant a level four fighter fifty XP, but in turn lost a small amount himself. This opens all sorts of training opportunities, either through selling lessons or... well, whatever.
If something like this were to be installed, that's how I'd like to see it done. Though honestly, I'd rather not see it done at all because there are better things to promote, in my opinion!

Didn't read Garem's post all the way thru but I think it is unnecessary to have this. Really, if you are training hard and often, a dm will notice you and reward you properly. Another thing is, who wants to spend 1000 coin on 10 xp, unless I misread something? If I did not, then I dont see that being used very often in most cases as 1000 coin can go to much better things.

Who is to say that you can't RP while studying? You can discuss spell tactics, the nature of the weave...
Fighting techniques, instructing students to do this, etc...
I am not making sense, am I?

Lower level fighters questing with higher level fighters are learning and studying on the job. Isn't this enough?

Transferring gold into xps on a training dummy/book pile/training locked chest/whatever is simply not good. It removes a lot of the danger from the setting, and a lot of the 'special' feeling higher level PC's get from pushing themselves.
Who really wants to see merchants who never leave town, are never very near danger, being level 12?
I know I don't.

Nobody is ever going to put coins into an object and get XP out like it's some kind of vending machine. >_>

Yep. You will have to roleplay well, or smash monsters to get your XP on EFU.

1000 golds for 10xp? I'd rather kill rats for 1/8th of an xp.

If you're involved in some sort of training, and it's interesting and unique, and especially if it involves other players, I'm positive the DM team will reward it when and if they notice. If they're not noticing, and you think they'd be interested, drop them a note on the /DM line.
