Councilor,
Over the last month, this city has become very important to me. It has become the heart, which I can not live without, it has become the home that I never felt I had. I love this city, and its people with all I can muster.
Though, I am no ordinary citizen. I was no slave. In fact, I must sadly admit that I was formerly a slave owner. It is a crime that I am certain I will forever pay for in this life and the next. There is nothing I am more ashamed of, and there is no way that I can repay for what I have done. You see, I was born Drow and grew up knowing little else. But I've escaped that life now and I wish only to live in peace, here in Sanctuary.
I keep my identity hidden, as best I can, because many would kill me for what I am. I do not blame them. In fact, there is a piece of me that wishes that I would be caught, so that I may face my judgement in the afterlife and perhaps, Eilistraee willing, finally be at peace.
But time continues forward and that day has yet to come. So, I would like to offer to you what I can, a minor repayment to the people of this city for my past mistakes. I can not alter the past, but perhaps I can help to shape a brighter future.
I know much of the Drow city and its secrets. I know much of what they know of Sanctuary. Most importantly, I know much about the bones they seek and why they must never be allowed to have them.
The bones will awaken a great evil, the likes of which will destroy our fair city. They will awaken a man into undeath, a man I believe you used to know, a priest of the primordial by the name of Mandarin. As agreed on before his death, the elders will give him lichdom, and in return he will lead an army against the city. You see, with or without the bones, the drow have long planned to take the resources of Dunwarren for themselves.
The reason they have not attacked already are numerous. The noble houses argue amoung one another and none wishes to commit the troops needed to launch a full attack on what is, in truth, a heavily defended city, only to be overun by the houses that do not commit. This lich, however, offers them another opportunity, a chance to use an army of undeath, so that they may reap the rewards without sacrificing anything.
They must not be allowed to have the bones or our city will fall.
I will keep you posted, from time to time, about what I know. I pledge to help you and this city in any way I can. Perhaps, in time, when I have earned your trust and you have earned mine we can meet. For now, you can reach me by a public post for Red Robin. Ask me a question and I will send you a letter detailing what I know. For now, this will be best, as I fear for my life from citizens and Drow alike if I were ever discovered.
Long Live Sanctuary.
