To brew a potion of resistance costs more than to brew a potion of armor or protection from alignment. Is this supposed to be?
Potion Brewing - Resistance
Check this-- what is the spell level of the potion?
Resistance is a cantrip/orison, but every "Luck Potion" I've ever seen has been a level 5 version of the spell, making it much more usable than the at-level version methinks since it lasts long enough to be useful. And +1 universal saves, by the way, is pretty damned useful.
Just a theory!
Garem I've ever seen has been a level 5 version of the spell, making it much more usable than the at-level version methinks since it lasts long enough to be useful.I believe the spell duration is 2 turns, regardless of the caster level.
Resistance Caster Level: 0 (Paladin 1) Innate Level: 0 School: Abjuration Components: Verbal, Somatic Range: Touch Area of Effect/Target: Self Duration: 2 TurnsGrants the target creature a +1 bonus to all saving throws.
It's a useful spell, yes. But it costs far more to make as a potion than is truly worth it.
35 gold, 2 xp is the cost.
Oops! I was mistaken in thinking it was Turn/level maxed at level 5. Two turns is still two minutes though, a pretty substantial amount of time for a cantrip/orison!
I'd argue that it's about fairly priced, really. This argument is going to be based purely on mechanics now, not the "reality" but on the "game" of NWN/DnD/EfU. Look at it this way...
The most frequently used level one "positive effect"/buff spell is by and far Cure Minor Wounds, IMO and from my experience. Four hp per cast, casting it four to six times (or a lot more with rods, wands, etc.!) heals about the same as a cure serious wounds spell- 16-24 hp! I say this just to make sure we're all pretty well agreed that it's the most useful level 0 spell.
Items that allow this ability, based off of the potion price standard (yes, like a gold standard for you economics guys and girls out there!), this spell is valued at 5 gold. Thus, 4 points of permenant healing is worth approximately 5 gold.
On the other hand, look at ANY item that gives a +1 Universal saving throw. These things will be extraordinarily expensive, assuming they have no negative traits as well, ranging from 400-1000 gold. Let's assume 700.
Now that we have our standards, we have to make a jump down from the 700 gold valued-constant effect to a two minute effect. Factors such as item weight, who can use it, etc. etc. can all be considered positive for the sake of the argument since we're talking about a potion which ANYONE can use and weighs very little. If anything, this makes it MORE valuable, but as I said, let's just toss that all out for the time being.
Based on the comparison of these two "products", I firmly stand that 35 gold for +1 universal saves for two minutes isn't really that bad. The only reason it might be lowered is simply because there isn't much demand for the "product", but then it comes to a question of combat/game mechanics which is not a realm I want to enter!
I disagree with the fact it should cost more than potions of protection from alignment. As those spells last 1 hour/level and they give +2 AC +2 Saves Immunity to mind spells against that specific alignment.
That's also the most powerful level 1 spell. Without question. It has unbelievabe defensive capabilities.
