A venting, request and thanks - RE: Drago Copperskin

A venting, request and thanks

So today, Copper, my hin bard met with some trouble. Before I go on, I want to try and explain a feeling.

We've all had that excitement when we first start playing EfU, that first quest, that first successful character, that first DM built quest (not just spice), etc.

Because my play hours have shifted primarily to ones that don't usually have DM's present, I get very few chances to go on specific DM quests by DM controlled NPC's or what have you. Copper got a chance to do this for Bunge (the bunge apprentice adventure). Well during today's craziness, the belt that bunge gave out along with all of Copper's dolls (which anyone who knows Copper were his 'thing'), were stolen.

So I feel heartbroken. Just wanted to share a bit of anguish is all.

[EDITED UPON PRESENTATION OF MORE LOGICAL FACTS BY THE DM]

I want to extend a genuine thanks out to several players.

First off is to the players of Pepto and Rindle. They provide solid RP and are generally good players to be with, especially in times of crises.

Second, I'd like to thank the players of Welfyr and Rodin as well as an apology to Tarisha (I think that's the characters name) for searching for the bodies and Coppers belongings. And to Tarisha for not really getting her involved entirely as I was hoping.

Third, I'd like to thank Wiggyboy also for dropping in when he did as well. Kudos to you as you've done a fine job over all since becoming a DM.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please send PM's or reach me on IRC when I pop on.

Sorry this was so long....

Ugh that sucks. I sympathize.

You're not going to want to hear what I have to say though. But I ought say it...

It seems like Copper would be pissed and angry. Take this passion and devote it to playing him as an angry and pissed doll-loving halfling! Hopefully you'll be able to recover them, but this also might open doors to getting new and interesting little girl's toys for him! :o

I -hate- ninja looting and the like. If it really was indeed ninja looting, you can report it.

If this was somewhere out in the Underdark I think it's perfectly acceptable for a PC to take some items he stumbles across from a dead PC. Full-looting might be a bit too harsh, but you should expect that you may loose your life, and your belongings everytime you step outside the foreboding gates of Sanctuary.

What is "ninja-looting" supposed to mean? This request sounds highly suspect to me, and if it was indeed a situation in which you died out in the wilds it is completely legitimate for a character to take things from you if it is IC for their PC to do so.

I am not really sure this request is appropriate on this server, unless I am missing something.

If picking up the objects of a person who had died then logged off, is ninja looting . . .

If sending a tell to your other character later to the effect that I had picked up some stuff and there would be way to get it back when she learnt copper was still around, is ninja looting . . .

And if taking stuff from dead pcs, with no other pcs around or even on the map, is ninja looting,

then I'm a ninja looter, cause it was me.

As you have no interest in dealing with this IC in game, I'll just hand what i have over, ooc, when next we're both on.

If he logged off then it isn't ninga looting. If he crashed, while in the fugue he shouldn't of been out alone.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what occured, nor any reason to act OOC as a result.

Technically this is true Metro. But it's one of the unwritten rules of efU that have arisen over the time and I recollect being in place before I started playing. If someone's dead. Don't clean out ALL their shit without a damn good reason. Sure it's totally viable ICly, but so is ganking every lowbie that steps out of Sanctuary in the name of some dark God. Neither are very friendly and neither generate good gameplay.

The issue is that there was a slaughter of a group through the amassing of several spawns all at once. A player organized a rescue, but sadly most of hte other teammates logged, abandoning their characters. In that time, someone came along and went through the bags, probably not seeing any bodies (because they logged)

So in retrospect, and having thought through this more, I'm removing the stupid emotion-fueled ooc request.

I'm just upset is all.

I call crap on that!

Its not an unwritten rule. EfU's rules are written. Its not even an "unwritten guideline".

The only thing we have said is bad form in the past, is when you go on a quest with someone with the intention of letting them die to NPC's, just so you can loot them. Generally speaking, it's also pretty rotten to loot their stuff if they intend to respawn as well. This business in the wilds is perfectly acceptable however.

Whenever I come across a pack in the wild, I check the player list and see if they are logged in. If they are, I ask OOCly if they plan to respawn or not. I wasn't asked that, though it's not required or expected.

Like I said, I just need to bite the bullet, unless what I said above is some unwritten rule that the server has.

Not knowing the circumstances here, I just wanted to say that I view a "pack" found in the Wilds (and maybe anywhere) as "remains". Unless you had met the person, how would you know who they are? And quite possibly in the Underdark, whatever killed them may have eaten them beyond recognition, even if not I doubt carrion lasts long in an unhospitable environment with a short food supply. My point is the "pack" is all that "remains" of some poor (most likley unidentifiable) soul.

In my opinion any abandoned pack in the Underdark is free game. If your companions can not get to you to drag your body and possessions out, sorry. I would suggest traveling with companions who carry invisibility potions in order to stealthy remove your remains from the battleground.

If your entire party dies...Well then isn't is reasonable to assume your belongings will be gone (how do you even justify respawning in such situations)

@ DjSpectre

Surely that's just personal courtesy, and you're a better player for doing it.

However, the person was perfectly within their rights to loot the bags they find out in the wild if, as Howland said, it is IC to do so. Such things can be resolved IG and IC without a need to take things OOC.

Hmm while i know its not against the rules and such i have to say i really dont like the idea of looting another players pack if the player is still on especially if your not going to mention anything to them about it. Mainly because if its some random person who comes by and picks it up then your never going to be able to find your stuff again.

There is no rule against ninja-looting, but if you want to promote a happy and healthy server, it's best to avoid it.

When I have played grabby characters in the past, I limited myself to looting the following:

1. Gold 2. Potions and other expendables 3. Plot items that I have an IC reason to steal 4. Keys

Just as a matter of OOC courtesy, I leave people's DM loot alone unless I have very strong IC reasons for taking it, which has never happened. It's usually something the player worked very hard for, and it can be very discouraging to them when someone just ganks it.

The people were still within their rights to do what they did, regardless of whether it was courteous, is what I'm trying to say. I'm not saying its a bad thing.

Just to reiterate--

If you die alone in the Underdark, your pack is 100% open game. That means everything in the pack.

It has happened to me before and probably won't be the last. i can sympathize with dj but yes crap happens unfortunatly.

Agreed. All fair game. Still makes you an asshole if you clean it out though

(Joking for the one tard that's going to take me seriously, there's always one)

You'd be a rich asshole, though.

Bureaucratix You'd be a rich asshole, though.

nope...I put all my gold in the bank prior to the adventure.

Always think one step ahead. Now the bank gets it!

This is also the philosophy I follow. I leave the uber loot alone unless I know for damn certain the PC has been perma-killed and the item is not needed for further RP by the PC's friends or what have you.

Some people like to roleplay greedy jerks! Seems we've resolved this issue at any rate.
