Letter to the Council

Greetings,

My name is Anyndel, and I am a Captain in the Hunters of Long Night - an elven warband devoted to the destruction of our mortal foes in Traensyr, as well as to the recovery of all that which they have taken from our kind.

I provide to you now a report of a recent scouting expedition into the environs near the Southern-most Traensyr gate.

Anyndel Traensyr South Gate Defences

A scouting expedition of the Southernmost gate into Traensyr showed that they currently have the following defences emplaced.

Patrols

No drow patrols were noted at the southern gate, however no less then three spiders were noted patrolling the area in a manner that did not seem true to it's arachnid manner. One patrolled west to east along the southern corridor. A second patrolled north, west, then returned east and south in the central area. Finally a third patrolled east and south, then north and west in the northernmost corridor.

Defences

The gates themselves can be reached from any of the three corridors, however all of these passages would see you channeled past two small rises, upon which are guards and long ranged weaponry emplacements. The Southernmost of these two rises was home to two repeating ballistae and a catapult, and was manned by a single drow soldier. The Northernmost of the two rises was occupied by a similar number of emplacements, a drow soldier, and a wizard.

Passing between these two defensive weapons emplacements, you finally arrive at the gates proper. The gates are large, and solid, likely made out of an underdark metal such as adamantine or mithril. Guarding these gates were two drow sentries, two drow sentry officers, and two wizards. The gates were locked.

Miscellany

Finally, in the north-westernmost section of the wall, I discovered an entrance into a slime-ridden cavern. Travel through these caverns revealed only a single guard, posted beside a portal of some unknown purpose. The passages continued through a maze-like set of chambers, and finally terminated at a bridge on the far side of which was a locked gate that I believe may exit into the sewers beneath Traensyr. A possible unguarded route into the city.

- Anyndel

I do not provide this information to you out of a sense of civic responsibility, but rather only out of a hope that there will be those among you that will be able to put it to use in striking a blow against the Tel'Gothrim. They no doubt plot the end of your settlement, and await only for it to be convenient for them to implement their plan.

Letters can be left for me by runner in the camp in Mycopolis. My hunters stand ready to lead any strike into the heart of our hated foe. More reports on the defences at the other gates, as well as on Traensyrian interests that we discover outside of the city proper are forthcoming.

A second note is penned.

Greetings,

Attached is a second report on the Traensyr defences, this time of the West Gates.

Anyndel Traensyr West Gate Defences

A scouting expedition of the Western gate into Traensyr showed that they currently have the following defences emplaced.

Patrols

No drow patrols were noted at the west gate, and only a single of the guardian spiders was seen the entire time I was there, pacing back and forth in a short path in front of the gate.

Defences

The gate can only be reached by traversing a long, elevated ridgeline with a valley on either side. The ridgeline itself appears to be unguarded, but those travelling it are visible from far off to those with darkvision. The valleys teem with the typical varieties of Underdark wildlife. Along the ridgeline are a number of obelisks that may merely be decorative, but may also serve some other magical purpose.

The gates were defended by a number of drow personnel. 4 Marksmen on the walls above provided cover for the 2 sentries and the officer below. The aforementioned spider paced before them.

Miscellany

The Western gate provides defensibility for two different roads leading into the underdark. The first stops at a Rest Stop for travellers that is heavily guarded. The second appears to be the trade route proper that provides commerce for Traensyr. Travel along this road is possible, to a point. The road is secured at a bridge with a locked gate that cannot so far be bypassed.

- Anyndel

As before, do what you will with it, although I hope that the information is not merely shelved and never noted. My Hunters stand ready to lead any incursions into Traensyr.
