Excerpts from the annals of Clan Doomseeker
The founding of Doom Hold and Clan Doomseeker
[Written in the large and bold runic script of Dwarven language, in a large and incredibly old tome bound in leathers]
Let it be recorded that in the Year 864 (the Year of the Broken Branch, by Harptos Reckoning), I, Kalin Doomseeker, lay down the foundations of Doom Hold here in the deep Underdark beneath the Galena Mountains in Damara. The Drow and other denizens of the dark have been vanquished by dwarven hammers and axes, and we have found rock suitable for a strong dwarven home, that should last as long as the rock around us will. Thus I, and my clan after me, shall take up the name Doomseeker, and we shall defend the upper holds from the enemies of the deep until we meet our inevitable doom. Thus shall I and my kin atone for my previous crimes. [Historian’s comment: What crimes Kalin Doomseeker had committed is not clear. It is, however, known that he was ejected from the Cairnlight clan, residing in the Galenos Mountains, because of them.]
A small excerpt from the recordings of birth in the annals of Clan Doomseeker
[Written in the same manner as the last excerpt, except for the writing being of a smaller and more economic manner]
It is to be known that Korgash, son of Karlen, son of Kalin; and Gorli, daughter of Goron, son of Glok, have been gifted by Moradin with a son, in the Year 1315 of the Harptos Calendar. The son bears the red hair of the Founder, and shall thus be named Kalin.
The final section of the annals of Clan Doomseeker
[Written in a hurried manner, some of the letters being barely readable. Dated 1367, Year of the Shield]
… We have fought them for weeks, and still they come, attacking us at every defensive position we have left. The main gates were collapsed two days ago, during a major attack from the main tunnels, but the accursed drow have used other means to get past our blockades. Food is running out, and our numbers are getting low. We will be overrun soon, but let those that recover this tome know that there lies three dead drow for each dead dwarf, and that we who remain will fight to our doom. [a series of praises primarily to Clangeddin and Moradin follow]
[Historian’s comment: These tomes were recovered by a dwarven expedition down into the Underdark, from the ruins of what must have been Doom Hold. Whether all of the dwarves of clan Doomseeker died here, or if some of them were taken captive, is uncertain.]
