I was playing today on my lawful good cleric and ende up with an evil party member that i couldnt identify until a paladin joined the party. Now if I understand correctly a paladin is a holy warrior of a certain god and is graced with certain abilities and limited spells after a few years of loyal service. I find myself wondering why a lawful good cleric ,especially from a god who paladins can worship wouldnt recieve this ability in some form. I know in pre 3ed rules it was a spell as well as a divine ability. I havent played a paladin here yet so im not sure how it works( crafting menu i assume , like tracking), but I think lawful good clerics should have this ability in some form, perhaps limited in use or not as strong.
Tell me what you think, im really just looking for opinions and maybe we can get it changed
Most players i have asked OOC tend to agre with this

That's because a paladin killing evil people is a hero while an LG cleric killing evil people is a murderer.

Won't being with someone for a period of time show what kind of person they are? Why do you need know with a spell/skill?
As a cleric, you have the "right" to ask someone of their faith or of their ways. Of course the individual's answer may not be forthcoming or enlightening. An evil person might be offended by a blessing.
Also, only paladins have a code that will not allow them to be in the presence of evil, not clerics. Why bother? One would think that some good clerics want to reach out to the evil amongst us to convert.

Disregard the previous comments, as they're not very useful in understanding the situation.
The spell does exist canonically, but as an actual spell, not a unlimited ability. We've actually scripted the spell, but are reluctant to release the spells2da at this time (that's a whole other can of worms).
Paladins are living embodiments of the LG aspects of their patron, and of a very particular code. This code includes not questing with evil. Most clerics would probably not wish to do so, but they may do so under specific circumstances (being tricked, assisting in a mission of repentance, a situation of extremely dire importance, etc.). At any rate, it isn't as important for them as it is for paladins. Also worth noting that some LG clerics (such as, say, a LG Helmite) not even be hugely troubled by some LE PCs (say, a very brutal yet devout LE Helmite).
