What is this server rated in terms of content that you can have? It's certainly not a family server is it? By content I mean RP content with regards to things like sex/torture.

No sex, torture OK within reason. If something you're about to do seems questionable, it probably is, so if in doubt ask a DM first!

Thank you for the response good Sir. What about with regards to backstory/storytelling, if you mention it happened rather than play it out.

I suppose that's also OK, within reason. As long as you don't graphically divulge the epic, sultry saga of when your character was a Drow Pleasure Slave, or what-have-you.

Edit: Actually one final question of the typical no-no word. Rape. Is this acceptable in a character's past? I have no intentions of playing something like that out as it's... sick.

This is something we clamp down on fairly heavily. Obviously we need not bother saying anything of the act itself, but I'd be cautious with the mentioning of it as well, as it's something which, rather rightfully, disgusts and offends everyone.
